F15 X5 Intermittent Problem turning off engine
Hello,
I was hoping someone here might have experienced this problem and help guide me to how to repair it. I have been getting intermittent problems trying to push the engine stop button. Started off with a very occasional have to push twice every now and then. It has slowly progressed and this morning my wifre had to press the engine stop button up to 8 times to shut off the engine. I used the Foxwell tool and and Carly and pulled these codes: Foxwell: 8040A9/Intermittent - START-STOP button hall effect sensor. Incorrect operation (pressure oblique) Carly: 8040A9: Start-stop button SST: misoperation (Schraegdruck) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Thanks for the input. I am working on getting the CPO warranty transferred over to my name now. Then I will take it into the dealership as my interpretation of the CPO warranty is that this should be covered.

FYI wanted to provide an update of what I found out about this issue. Turns out there is a TSB for this issue and BMW created a bulletin for it. Here is quick summary of that bulletin:
Subject: The Start/Stop Button Must be Pressed Several Times to Stop Engine Models: I01 and F15 X5 produced from June 30, 2013 to July 31,2014 Situation: To turn the engine off when it is running, the start/stop button must be pressed several times. This error does not affect starting the engine Cause: Body Domain Controller (BDC) application software error. BDC fault "8040A9 - Start-stop button SST: Incorrect operation (pushed at an angle)" is stored. Correction: Program the vehicle I looked it up on the NHTSA website and here is the full bulletin: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...48036-9999.pdf My local BMW dealership is telling it is only covered under original new vehicle warranty and not under CPO Warranty. I just acquired the vehicle a few months ago and only under CPO Warranty. I'm trying to see what I can do to get them to cover it as I have read the CPO warranty and this doesn't seem to be under the exclusions. Any advise on how to fight for them to cover the reprogramming of the BDC? They want to charge me $300. |

I do not know. They say to use ISTA/P Here is what the Service Bulletin says:
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.53 (ISPI Next 3.53) or higher. The corrected software was introduced with the following integration levels: I01 – I001-14-07-502 F15 – F025-14-07-502 Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software. For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming. I will be calling BMW NA today to discuss. Will keep everyone updated. |

The software update performed by the dealer solved my issue. Have not had this problem since. Maybe take the SIB to the dealer and try to talk them into covering it. Or try using ista to update the module per the bulletin?
