Seems like an old post. I wonder if my recent build already comes with a 105ah battery. Time to open it up to take a look.....

You dont "need it"
BMW are just replacing them as a precaution since many low daily mileage cars arnt getting their batteries charged enough and batteries dont like that. If you drive enough or charge your battery weekly there is no reason to replace it at that interval when out of warranty.

New battery at every 2nd oil change?!?! I've run batteries in other vehicles for 5 years / 80,000 kms without issue.

I will find out. I know its located under the trunk floor with a plastic cover over it. It can't be that difficult to remove to take a peek.

I noticed in the specifications for the new x5m and x6m that it describes the battery like this:
90 + 50 Ah So I guess this means those models have *two* batteries?? Or is that some kind of typo? If so, I wonder if this (significant) extra juice is all for this issue. |

Thanks for the confirmation.
I guess the specs pages for these models are out of date: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx That still says the 50i for example has the one 90 Ah battery |

Should you trickle charge your battery
I own 2015 x5 35i, being my first BMW I have learned that if you do not drive it enough your battery will lose it charge. The times that I drive it are short trips in stop and go traffic. Should I trickle charge it weekly.
