Had to calculate speed from RPM due to speedo being buried for some time. We cam up with about 170 MPH. Was only 300 RPM to go to redline. Took probably 2 miles to get there after we'd hit 120.

Never did find out what a Ford Explorer XLT will do - pegged at max speedo mph for a good ways 111mph was theoretical top speed but hard to measure in those days if you were driving a lonely straight road in Mexico.

Welcome to the Top Speed Tread.

Here are the rules:
YOU must be the driver. You cannot be a passenger and claim the top speed.
Speed Achieved
Car. It must be a vehicle recognized as a motor vehicle. Race cars allowed.
Modifications, if applicable.
Tires
If at a race track, name the track.
All other runs are assumed to be in Mexico.

I'll start.

182 MPH
BMW M6 - V10 Power
Evolve Motorsports Tune. Dinan Air Boxes. Dinan Suspension. Dinan CF Rear upper stress bar. Tubi Rumore Mid-Pipe. Tubi Rumore Section 3. AC Schnitzer Billet Aluminum Front upper stress bar.
Pirelli PZero Corsa System

Mexico.
I'm going to sit this one out. My kid still reads this forum and my goal is not to turn them into my clones.

So now that I remembered this new rule of mine, let's say 60. 62 mph max.

Yes. That'll be my answer.

In 1995, I was a young teen in my dads 93 500E merc, spruce green (minty green'ish) A1A Mia Fl 3am

He flew back to Massachusetts (home) the Car was just in the driveway, I swear it was calling me, Jake, drive me Jake, wait until mom go's to sleep, pickup those big booty girls you saw @ the Ventura mall, I did what the car asked of course 😐

130mph, almost died, never drove that fast again, had to clean out wine cooler throw up the next morning before Mr. Miller came back

Cleaning throw up between the window seal was a challenge, btw my father still has no idea what happened, he thought I just enjoyed hand washing the car, he said thanks but never put coconut scent spray in the interior, Here's $20 go get a CD

I think back to my Autobahn days and think I'm blessed for surviving them. After I got out of the Army in Germany in '85, I stayed there and taught driver's ed classes for Central Texas College. I would teach at a different military base every week. Some of them were quite far from where I lived. I had a '77 633 CSi that would fly and I was able to buy gas at the military price (about 25 cents a liter, IIRC), so fuel saving was not an issue. The Autobahn was wide open in those days. Rarely did you encounter a speed limited stretch. I would always drive well above 100MPH and I'd get pissed if someone was poking along in the left lane and made me slow down to 100 or less. And yet at that time I'd never even heard of an airbag in a car. I wore my seat belt, of course, but in a 100MPH+ crash, that wasn't going to help a whole lot. Never bothered to think about it at the time. I guess that's just the wisdom of age talking to me now.

I was a Naval civilian employee as a college student in '85 and my section's boss had a brother stationed in Germany who died in a tunnel crash. If I remember correctly it ended up being 80+ cars and dozens of deaths. The autobahn was no joke back then and still isn't now in the unlimited sections.

Glad you survived it all.

I have to ask - how does a dynojet prove top speed? I honestly don't get it. It may be calculating how fast the wheels are turning, but I cannot see how it would account for real world factors, such as wind resistance / aero, heat/temps, etc.

If I'm wrong, I'd like to learn how it does account for this?

I've heard a lot of stuff in Italy is closed in August (just FYI) - you looked into this to see if true? Basically, that a lot of Italians take off for vacation in August and so stuff gets shut down.
