X5M tow hook front license plate mount

Hey guys,

Does anyone have a recommendation for one of these? Ideally it wouldn't interfere with the PDC sensors.

Thanks

I use the US millworks tow hook mount. If you move it all the way to one side it will not affect the sensor

Thanks guys - a few comments below.

This one looks pretty good as far as tow hook ones are concerned - thanks. A bit more research suggests others are quite happy with it.

Nice -- what's the exact setup there?

Does your state require it? Mine does, and I'd like to avoid giving cops reasons to pull me over.

Interesting - thanks. I do somewhat agree that the offset look with the tow hook is less than stellar, but it doesn't bother me *too* much. My car is a lease, so I may just bite the bullet and get the plate mounted with the standard center bracket (with holes drilled) - haven't decided yet, but have some time before the temp registration expires.

I live in NJ and travel into NYC frequently and for the past 20+ years I've never had any problems with no front plates. If I had to install one, I would probably go with a 3M double sided tape and apply the plate dead center on a X5M. Otherwise, the front would be naked!

That's impressive!

By "never had any problems", do you mean you weren't given a ticket or weren't even pulled over because of that?

Correct... was never pulled over due to not having front license plates.

I think having an off-centered plate looks worse than a plate placed where it's supposed to be. But that's just me.

I agree with you. I live in a two plate state, but don't run a font plate. I do, however, have to attach the plate every year to pass state inspection. This year, I followed onfireX5's instructions for plate mounting. I took a black plastic frame, and some black zip ties, and stuck the plate in the lower air intake, in the center. It worked phenomenally well, and if I choose to run a front plate full-time in the future, I will use this method. The plate fits perfectly in that location, and the zip ties don't show at all once completed.

I did add the plastic cover with the black frame since I have to run it all of the time and it makes cleaning off the bug guts much easier.

Couple questions about how you mounted this, Did you use zip ties and also any issues with airflow restrictions?

Yes, with zips. Logged the air temps,,,,zero changes with it on or off....easy way to undercount the plate with no holes cut and you barely notice it undermounted

Thanks to onfirex5. Mounted my front plate on the lower grill. I think it looks pretty good.

Digging it ! You really don't notice it as much when you walk around the car with it low and set back like that. Good Job !

Any new options? I found something called the Platypus Mount but wanted to see if anyone on here has experience with it or recommend a better option for X5M/F85.

Yes. A body shop could repair it with some filler, sanding, primer, sanding and then spraying the entire bumper cover. If you go this route perhaps entertain a Euro Bumper which would also eliminate the obtrusive amber reflectors. You could offset the costs by selling your X5M bumper to a fellow F15/F16 member.
