I'm trying to line up a winter set and it's a PITA for this car.

FWIW, Tirerack recommends 275/40/20 for winter tires front/rear. You would still need a second set of wheels since the 11.5" OE rear is too wide. To rub salt in the wound, none of the tire rack wheels are a great match.

Local dealer says the factory winter set NLA - I'm trying to get my friend to pull some strings.

I suspect your difficulty has more to do with the time of year, than the vehicle itself. The one time in my life that I waited until this time of year to acquire a set of winter tires/rims it was nearly impossible. Ever since then, I get my winter setup settled before the end of the summer. I understand this is not always possible for everyone, especially if taking delivery of one's vehicle mid-winter.

I'm truly surprised it's being said the BMW sets have runout. In the beginning of September, BMW had a warehouse in Germany filled to the brim with their winter setup for the F85/86.

*subscribed* - looking forward to see the outcome of the test fitting. Curious to know more about the set of wheels you got as well (from where, how much, sizes).

Fronts are 20 x 9.5 ET45 and rears are 20 x 10.5 ET45. I'll update with fitment in a day or two.

Even in October, we simply ordered them and they showed up.

Perhaps. But don't call me a procrastinator - I just bought the car 4 days ago.

What took you so long to buy the car? I call that procrastination!

Welcome to the club! Enjoy.

There is a Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow RUN-FLAT 275/40R20 front and 315/35R20 rear staggered set available. I've never run run-flats...

Please anyone and everyone comment on how the Pirelli run flats will do and any other options that anyone can think of.

Thank you and any feedback would be great!
I ran 20" run flats for summer and the 19" Pirelli Winter run flats on my '13 X6 ///M. I got three seasons out of them. I actually prefer the run flats. I know I'm going to get flamed for that statement but I'm just a girl... Seriously though, I have gotten so many flats and blowouts because of the low profile, the monster rears and the terrible roads here in NY/NJ. I am almost always driving solo and I don't want to be stuck on the side of road. I don't find any issue with reduced performance on the runflats.

I have your same dilemma with availabilty. I just traded in my '16 X6 50i for a '16 X6 ///M. My 19" winter set up from the 50i wouldn't fit over the calipers so here I am in January without winter tires. After checking with several sources I decided the best thing to do was to go a size smaller on the tires so I'll be mounting 275/40R20 tires on 285/40R20 wheels (I'm not running those monster rears in the snow). I ordered the Ice and Snows. I'm just waiting for the rims to come in. I'm holding my breath Mother Nature will continue to cooperate. I'll feel a lot better when I get these summers off.

If you run the 20s with 285s front and rear and go with the 275 wide tires there are many choices available in both RF and non RF.
Good luck.

Are you sure they are no longer available? I just ordered a set two weeks ago.

The subjects:

Tools ready to go:

Front fitment = success!

Plenty of caliper clearance:

Rears are good to go as well:

Time to winter-prep the wheels prior to mounting/balancing tomorrow:

Few weeks ago, I saw an X5M with the OEM 21" rims and Pirelli Scorpion ICE (Not winter, seems like Pirelli has two Versions of winter tires = Pirelli Scorpion Winter & Pirelli Scorpion ICE).
Maybe an alternative for those who don't want to invest in winter rims...
Hope it helps.

To follow up on this. Dealer says there are 146 orders pending for the winter wheel set. Should have a lead-time update on January 12th. There are sets in Germany (for the European market) and they are blocked for sale to the US.

I am really surprised how badly BMW mis-estimated up-take on X5/6M winter sets.

If you bought an X5M after November, your options are limited to off-size Continental DWS06 or studded Nokian hakkapeliitta 8s. Neither are really an ideal option.

Looks good! Could you post more details on the wheels? Size/offset/where did you get them?

Thanks.

I'm one of those 146 orders... Bummer. Called the parts dept yesterday and they still said they had no update on delivery time, but were very apologetic. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just pick up some DWS06s? Any recommendations on sizes for winter driving for the OEM 21s? Thx

Hi all new x5m owner as of today! Custom order carbon black w/silverstone interior.

Not hijacking just wanted to chime in on the OEM winter wheels/tires. The sales manager at my dealership was able to find/order a set today and they will be at the dealership for install on Thursday. I'm NoVa not sure if that matters but seems that there are sets out there somewhere!

Just the new guys .02!
