BMW X1 2020 or BMW 2016 x5 used? please help

So I'm getting my next car and shifting from a mazda3 (which I still have and will be my daily commuter) and getting a more luxury ride for dates, meetups, and church etc. But not sure which route to go. First bmw so my initial gut reaction says go with the 2020 x1 being released this fall. Then after test driving a audi q5 that was 2016 I noticed that used cars aren't bad. So did some digging and came across

https://www.ebautobrokers.com/detail...5g0s79302.html

It's little cheaper then the x1 that will be released. This dealer has good rep amongs people here in seattle and trust the cars are good. Questions I have are.

1). This is the eDrive model and wondering does it have more issues then the regular x5?

2). It has around 40k miles which is more then average and heard that during this time there is parts etc that gonna break down or some issue. Should the mileage be that important? I know x5's have high maintenance cost but I know some third party specialists who I will be working with.

3). Car fax shows minor damage in the rear and I don't think this will pose any issues.

4). Getting used car oppose to new car will be lower on sales tax as well as other lower cost but having to purchase warranty might make it balance out. Anyways the price is around 32,888 … How much do you think I should offer for this ? I had my father deal with my first car and not good at negotiating ( I look really young despite my age (Asian genes lol) so dealers look at me as some kind of easy target. I just recently got new work doing ux/ui tech job so this will be my first luxury ride. They have text option and just like to offer the price to them and go from there. So any experts here give me good number to start???

It all depends on what is it do you expect from the your next car? Do you care about gas mileage? What features are more important for you? Are you comfortable paying extra for maintenance? I drove X1 as a loaner and for me it was just "meh" after driving my X5. May be when I was in my 20s brand new X1 would be my dream car, but today- I would go for used X5 over new X1. New X3 is actually nicer, I would probably compare these 2. X1 and X5 are way too far apart IMHO.

Well i'm in early 30's and never had luxury car before (i really like my mazda3 and still keeping it .. so well built)

SO x3 is better? Is it due to smaller size but same features?

Out of all three which cost most to maintain or is just luck of the draw from person to person.

I enjoy just lounging in car as a man cave when work stress builds (drive is important too but i'm ok with any style driving). Gas mileage x1 gets the best runaround but based on this small criteria guess x1?

but the 40k mileage from the link should i be considered for new parts or issues coming forth?

And what about pricing.. what should i offer if i go the x5 route.. This dealer is pretty good.. They sold like 16500 cars and have like 4.8 rating with 1300 users. They inspect the car and do the hw for you before.

I am in Seattle and know about this shop. They are fine, although no better than dealer.

In my opinion, this particular X5 is a base model with no options, and it's a 40e, which is a hybrid. Is this the particular model you are looking for?

The price is very ok, mileage is a little high for 2016. Any warranty left? BMW extended warranty is expensive.

You may be better off buying a cpo car from BMW dealer.

This is not about better or worse, its about what is your expectation? What do you want from your next car? Do you want just ANY luxury car? If you don't care about features or anything and the only thing you are looking for is BMW badge on the hood- go for X1, sure. When I was shopping for my next car I was looking for comfortable AWD mid-size SUV with some features ( blind spot sensors, head up display, nice cameras all around etc.) and really good MPG. That's how I end up buying CPO X5 35D. This particular car you are referring to- I would not buy it, very basic, test drove 40E version and not a fan of the engine sound and performance only 7000 miles of warranty left. I suggest you do some research, test drive different models and decide what is it you want. We can't make a decision for you. As I said- I can't compare X1 and X5, they are too far apart. Different size, different features, different class, different philosophy.

hello fellow pnw'r it's nice to know. How's the seattle freeze lol.. j.k I'm ok with the base model. I was thinking about the extended warranty too and should check that (what would be safe extended warranty price?) And I agree mileage is high as they originally got it from california so lot of commute.

As for the hybrid does that pose any issues ? i know better gas mileage but just wondering about issues it might cause for one reason or another..

Guess they are not so special as I thought . But selling 16k cars? That's a lot

might just get new 2020 x1 .. Just don't like how much it depreciates after just one year

These are good questions. And I think I should start low x1 and then see if it is right for me. And taking good care of it and seeing how bmw works (driving, maintenance, car etc..) I will see if this is even the right ball park for me. As mentioned, I like mazda3 a lot and will continue driving this until it breathes out it's last fume lol.

but thanks for the input on the 40e, I figured something was off as the price tag gave me red flag. lol

But back to your question, I think the badge but also just reviews on how much more fun driving is compare to a xc4o volvo i was getting. (although the volvo interior was soo much nicer).

You think x1 is less too maintain then the x5? Heard that the higher number it can get bit more tricky with more components etc so higher the cost. Anyways, x1 2020 here we come lol. Higher insurance cost and higher sales tax but it's nice to own fresh and have good journey.

You don't have to buy, if you are so unsure about which one to get- may be try to lease? If you really like it- you can keep it, if not- return the car to the dealer and move along. And it is also hard to compare "fun driving" level. Someone is happy with 40e performance, someone is ok with regular 35, and some people will only go for 50 and tune it and push it to the limit. My friend just got a CPO 5 series, really fun to drive but to me it feels to low after driving X5 and my wife's MB SUV. Maintenance question- well yes, since if you buy new or lease or get a CPO you have maintenance included, if you get it used- you won't get much out of the maintenance plan remaining . Did you try other BMWs may be 3 or 5 series? Or you are specifically looking for CUV? Did you check here https://cpo.bmwusa.com ?

I just did a quick search on CL, a few good ones came up:

BMW Bellevue has a nice 50i m sport for only $28k! Run to check this one out. You will love this one after you drive it, it's a rocket ship.

Also, a low mile 16 in Portland, etc.

Do some real homework and you will find a deal.

BTW, X1 is an economy car, not even in the same league as X3, and you will take a huge bath buying new.

I agree. Lease is an option and didn't realize you were able to just return it and redo paperwork (which is bit of hassle but having a car for several years it's minor thing). I may go that route. Last car I had I just as my father to do the dealing and didn't even test drive it and it drove well. This time around it may not be so lucky and need to test drive and see what fits my style and personality. But yea small suv as I'll probally be getting a small camper to add later (towing is pretty good on these cars I think)

i checked bmw bellevue but couldn't find the 50i maybe someone else rant to it already lol.. As for x1 being economy, i'm fine with that as a starter. Just not sure if buying new is way to go. I like huge bath so not sure what you mean by that

Not trying to steer you away from BMW, just an option since you enjoy your Mazda.

also the elliot bay .. thought I had this impression of going against any dealer (except new car) so glad you pointed this out. I'm sure you know mercer island area that has lot of curves for driving. I have family up there so will be driving that area a lot and seems pretty fun. Anyways, better do some more homework and testdrives, which is actually good as knowing more about cars will help you save and not panic when something happens lol

Seems bmw has bigger depreciation then other cars.. or am i wrong. Most people on this forum... do they go the used route or new route?

I guess used cars and used car dealers have stigma from the past etc.. but seems nowadays cars are built more stronger and certified used is way to go?

thanks for the link but i look only for white cars lol (all my cars were white in past and my dog is even white).. ! It says Taipai too.. I'm Korean so you and I know rides are kind of important in our culture. Playing in a korean tennis club they got all high end rides hahahha just hard to avoid it..

IMO CPO is the way to go, preferably low miles CPO.

Interesting question; however, there’s not much in common (between the X1 and X5) aside from the BMW badge. X5 is the choice to make.

X5 is the way to go, but if its a base model X5 with no options u'll prob regret it later, as the more u read into and lurk on the forums, u'll discover more and more features that u wish u've gotten. i would skip the X1 all together. had a loner for a week and couldn't wait to return it. The X1 is really an odd ball, its not big n tall like a SUV, but not small like a sedan, really weird. I feel like a 3 series touring has more room than a X1. If fiance makes sense to u, get at least a X3.

I’m not sure a man would look right in an x1. But then, in this crazy world of anything goes who am I to judge.

Yes I considered this. I was thinking of their turbo version too which is super nice and great reviews. So I play lot of tennis and lot of my peers drive the bmw, Mercedes and Porsche etc.. and even though I'm sure they could care less, guess I'm bit self conscious. On the other spectrum, I'm Korean descent and my peers are also similar like the tennis people hahaha .

I understand about the self conscious part. Just remember, they won't be paying your bills, you will. So you need to make the best decision for you. Just my two cents. Lol
