I have this same setup and they are GOOD, not great. So much better than the Michelin summer tires you have on there now. But nothing will be what you probably want because the tires are too wide. And if you run a smaller wheel/tire setup, then you sacrifice handling in all other weather than snow. If you decide to use those 21" OEM staggered wheels (again assuming that's what you have), since it's a staggered setup, you need two different tires for the front and two different tires for the rear. Here is the link to the front tire - https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...VR1SCORISXLRFT Here is the link to the rear tire - https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...LRFT&tab=Sizes Hope that helps. Enjoy your new M! |

Welcome to the club. Don't even try using your summer tires in snow/ ice. They are super dangerous. Like Blue said you can get winter tires for your current 21" wheels or get a dedicated winter wheels/tires. I live in upstate NY and I have 20" setup for winter with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 winter tires (275 40 20, 315 35 20). Keep watching classifieds here and also join F85 F86 Facebook group. People sell winter sets often. Good luck

Unless you want to run winter tires year round on your current 21's, it's going to be a PITA to keep swapping tires twice a year with the same set of wheels - you're better off finding a dedicated winter wheel/tire setup. There's usually a few sets for sale on this forum, otherwise Offer Up, FB marketplace, Craigslist, etc.
As others have said, those Michelin Pilot Super Sports have no business in ice and snow. Or really even with no snow but really cold temperatures, those tires will turn into rocks and have little grip. Something like these below is what you need. You'll need at least 19" wheels to clear your brakes. https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1889037 Beautiful purchase BTW, Long Beach Blue looks awesome. |

Is it possible to downsize on X5 M? Regardless of staggered set up? If you could tun square set up and 19" that would be best.
In winter narrow is always better. So I would run size that regular X5 runs in square set up in 19". That will also open more tire options. Probably you could get Michelin X-Ice Snow, Bridgestone DM-V2, Continental VikingContact 7 in 19" size. |

I guess 255/50 R19 would be then option for M? I am not sure 18" are going to clear front brakes. He can always run spacers in the back to fill gap a bit. |

I personally on X5 never liked Bridgestone DM-V2 bcs. it has weird lateral ice handling. Put Michelin X-Ice2 Latitude and they were really good. |

They are OK, and sometimes can be very problematic if run 3-4yrs. They are very good in two things: snow and ice. But, they are mediocre at best in everything else. They finally resolved to some extent wet performance with R3 as their previous versions were borderline dangerous in those conditions. They still have issues with balancing which points to inconsistent quality of a structure. They lose performance dramatically after 2-3yrs and tend to be very loud. I would always go Continental, Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli before those. |

You could also scrap/sell your 20" summer tires and get some all-seasons, lots of tire options if 20's. Unless you want a dedicated winter tire setup. |
