Has anyone changed their keys for motion sensing ones?

I have a 2017 X5 (F85) that has comfort access. I had read somewhere that dealers could replace the keys for newer ones that stop transmitting after a while. There have been a lot of well-publicised thefts of cars with comfort access here.

After a few phone calls my local dealer claimed to have found the technical bulletin and could do the job.

To cut a long story short, after 3 visits and software updates it's still not working. The keys still transmit even after leaving them for over 10 minutes. I've checked the model numbers of the keys and they are different to my original ones.

Has anyone, preferably in the UK, successfully changed their keys for the motion sensing ones? Which dealer did you get to do it?

Thanks!

I use a Faraday Bag / Faraday Cage Protector. It is a RFID signal-blocking anti-theft pouch. Much easier and cheaper. You can find them online starting at $10.

That's a great idea. I didn't even think of that. You just need to pull it out of the bag when you get to the car right?

Minor inconvenience. They can steal the code remotely anywhere if they can get within 20-30 feet of your fob (I believe it is even further when they use strong antennas). That's how they steal cars that are parked in front of your house while your keys are somewhere in the house. I better use this than having someone access to my vehicle.

I don't care about the vehicle either, but at times I have other valuables in the car when I park it and I don't want them to be had.

Why would you do that? You know that they still can smash your window with the keys hidden in the faraday cage?

Why do you lock your car or house doors? With your logic, they are also useless.

You leave valuable stuff in your car and say that I have lack of logic. Oooooook.

So you are being condescending I see.

I bet you claim that you never lock your doors as the windows can be smashed anyways!

You probably do not carry anything with you in your car ever that you need to leave inside the car when you go somewhere after you park? Or do you carry everything on you at all times? Maybe you schlepp a carry on to everywhere you go. Who knows? And I wonder what you picture when you hear the word valuable?

In order not to waste any more time on this insignificant topic, let me clarify what can be valuable that one might need to leave in the car: For instance, a gun when you need to go into a court house! I sure do not want anyone to copy my fob code and have access to my registered weapon in my trunk. It is not worth the hassle and this issue can be solved for 10 bucks. But I guess it is too inconvenient for you! To each his own my friend.

Have a nice day with yourself!

How about just disabling the comfort access, and use remote buttons to unlock?
