SA's are brainwashed by the company kool-aid, as the other poster said, lots of strong opinions but there is only one that really matters, the one from the manufacturer ZF, BMW is just pushing their marketing BS with their "lifetime fluid". BMW has Amazing engineers but a downright evil Marketing department.

Below is directly from ZF. Attached is the oil change procedure for those interested. The ZF8HP holds approx 8 Liters, you will only get 4.5ish out during a standard oil change, if you loosen the valvebody, you will get approx 6.5 liters out for a more complete change.

Then I will follow your lead. Thank you for your insight.
ATF from out e91. 130k. Fresh ATF left (only had a shot glass handy, lol). Easy decision. Was vibrating under load (converter shudder). No vibration after fluid swap. (I did it twice to make sure I got most all).

I will be getting my ATF changed out on my f86 this summer. 52k. Still under CPO. It's like a grand I hear as the ATF is expensive.

I have a good Indy that works on my e91 and mercedes. They prep cars for lime rock park and have great rep. I'll have them do it. Not sure if I should do in or out of CPO.

Hi there, bit of a thread dig...

I'm about to pick up a 16 X5M, I'm changing it out from a 14 M4 I've had for the past 4.5 years as the SUV suits my current life.

I did over 100k kms in my M4 and it was largely trouble free (total 126k in it), and 90k of those it had a mild tune in it. This X5M I'm picking up has 65k kms (40k miles) and plan to take it through to about 160k kms in my ownership.

Curious on an update on how people are going with clocking up the miles, particularly the higher miles?

I approached my local BMW service department about changing my fluids, and was told their BS. We don't change these fluids unless their is an issue, their lifetime. Their is no fluid(s) on this earth, that are present inside an engine or transmission that last forever.

I'm currently sitting at 65,XXX and earlier this year, I had both front & rear diffs, transfer case and transmission fluid changed. You can choose to believe what BMW is telling you, but after your BMW is no longer under warrantee. And you have a huge issue and the expense associated with it, you will remember "Their is no such thing as lifetime fluids".

I was presently surprised that my transmission, diffs and transfer case fluid looked pretty clean, for having 60000 miles on them.

Afternoon all, my 2018 is at 46k, following mgrs service schedule as I paid for it to 125 k or 7 years. Exception will be changing trans and front dif (?) fluids. No issues except drivers door soft close assembly. I don't baby it, but then I don't track it either, on 3rd set of MPSS's.

That's what I forgot to add. I go through tires like butter here in NYC. It's annoying. I have my rim and tire warranty but to get a claim approved for new rubber is a nightmare.

Once I hit 50k I'll extend the warranty. Not sure how it's going to hold up with downpipes and exhaust and intake and a flash ble ble ble.

Picked up my '16 X5M back in Apr w/33K miles and couldn't be happier with the decision to buy one. I'm at a little over 36K now and haven't had any issues. This thing is absolutely incredible to drive and really defies physics on how quick it accelerates. Just went stg1 via bootmod3 and it's a beast...a silverback on wheels

Mileage

Damn... Some of you guys have very low mileage. And some of you guys are finding these Ms with very low mileage. Nice!

Mine is a 2017 X5M just about to turn 46K miles. The exterior is brand new and the interior might as well be because it's damn close. The car is mint and I love it.

2015 with 56k daily with winter trips to Canada, Florida, NC summer trips....
The only issue was a transfer case at 49k fixed under warranty.
Will probably keep it till 100k or more. Love it.

Just passed 103k. Was also fighting with dealer to have trans flushed, to no avail. Probably will try an find an indy shop to do it.

My dealer wouldn't do it either, unless there was a issue. Claiming lifetime fluids BS. So I went to Benz Elite Automotive here in Fairfax VA, and never looked back. And now my X5M is maintained exclusively by them, as well as my AMG.

Right @ 35k in my 2017 X5M. Got rear air suspension replaced due to leaking/sagging. Otherwise no issues at all.

2018 X5M BSE CPO. Bought my baby at 7k last Nov and just hit 11k. Just got oil change done and transfer case replaced under warranty (slow leak). Hopefully no further issues as I plan to do my first long drive to Key West next month! Also plan to keep this beast for many years to come! Worked out a deal with wifey to be able to do one mod a year lol.
