Delete on 3.0!

I will attempt a muffler delete on an 3.0, in about a month when I convert to M Package bumpers.
Wanted to avoid paying for an MPE, around $900 w/shipping. Shop told me $250 for a Y pipe, plus I will supply the tips.
Am debating on diesel carbon fiber, akrapovic-like double quads, or simply painting aftermarket "stock-like" exhaust tips.
I got MPKK, so I'm very curious to see how it'll work out.
Will record videos before and after.
Stay tuned!

Agreed. It is really quiet civilized when you want it to be and just aggressive enough. Hats off to you for the discovery and beta.

I think ANY muffler shop can do it, muffler delete - it's very basic really. You can just order x-pipe and tips that you like from ebay and then go to any muffler shop

you are right about that , but many shops in Chicago will not gonna do it. " Oh no no , we cant do that , it is against the law " not to mention that many here in Chicago are using low quality pipes and the job that they will do is let say not that professional . Dont get me wrong , I dont want to be mean and rude and disrespectful but not everybody can do a perfect welding . I dont want my x5 sound cheap ( i know is muffler delete ) and have people turn around and laughing loud . i did find this :

Did you bring in your own x-pipe to the shop or they got one for you?

My shop got cheapest standard x-pipe (the most common one fits ideally), but they got no tips and I stayed with stock tips at the moment. Came to $280 for the job total. With tips it's going to be more, around $370 or so, give or take depending on the shop

Tips are tough choice - too many to choose from and too little imagination (at least for me) to pick proper ones

The x-pipe looks like the one my shop used, but i suspect they used a cheaper one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/j...yABEgImU_D_BwE

As for tips - I don't trust myself, I have bad taste for choosing something. It's always good to find some pics of how it looks on x5

In any case I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised by outcome - it's really hard to make that V8 sound bad

This SAV sounds the way it was supposed to sound. Changes the whole experience.

I went with 3.5in quad. Fitment is perfect. They didn't think you could fit 4in in the space for the exhaust tip.

Shop I went to here in PHX had many kinds laying around. Go x-pipe, not H-pipe. A good shop that specializes in custom exhaust fabrication is your best bet....Not Rick's Muffler 'O' Rama.

BTW for those who may get a bit scared of exhaust been too loud - it's not! It's got a bit quieter recently, after I drove about 400 miles or so. My bet is ECU/DME is adjusting for the new volumetric change in exhaust and now it's more efficient and torquey. Tone changed to more mellow but still deep and strong. Lots of pops too!

I think it's the best mod I did - splitting the 1st place with Stage 1 tune

What tune did you do? I took my JB+ off cause I swear it wasn't doing anything. I have a 2017 and there's a chance the tune doesn't work on later cars... Been toying with the idea of the ESS tune. Apparently it brings the 50i to X5M levels of power.

Piggybacks should work if you have proper wiring - they are simply amplifying signal to increase boost - basically doing it without ECU knowing. Maybe there was some issue with your JB+ not sure

I got BPC (Bimmer Performance Center) Stage 1 tune and they just released Stage 2 (it's not on their website yet). I think any Stage 1 tune should bring 50i to x5m level as there's 120hp difference roughly and that's about how much you get with Stage 1 (give or take)

The reason I chose BPC is because they were first who offered DME flash on the market for n63tu. Also, they currently hold record for fastest diesel BMW in the world. IMHO they are #1 in US/Canada but I may be biased

I kept resonators only because they help with drone. IMHO just muffler delete with x-pipe turned out to be perfect for a car that is still not race car or tracked everyday. Biggest impact will be if you remove stock cats and go with downpipes, but together with muffler delete - that will be a straight pipe and will be TOO LOUD
