UK Engine choice - oh, and taxes

I only just noticed this on the UK site:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/about/new...178607,00.html

It says that "Other engine derivatives start production in September". Has anyone heard what that means in terms of availability?

I want to get an E92 as soon as I can (I got the dealer to put me down on the list last year!) and would love the 335 but with company car tax being what it is, a 330 might be a reasonable compromise. The price should be about £32,000, ie somewhere above half way between 325 and 335 and the CO2 figures, which they base the amount of tax on, should be less.

I worked out that the difference in tax between a 325 and a 335 would be an extra £100 a month!

It means the 330i and 330d E92 only start production in September

Yeah, that's why I wondered about availability. The UK (worldwide?) launch is Sept 23 and usually if you have a build slot you get the car 4-6 weeks later. Can I order a 330 and expect to get it not too long after 325 and 335 launch?

You would probably only get it some time October or November or even later, depending on how sold out the slots are

I would wait for the DI version of the 3.0l. More power, better fuel efficiency, less tax(?).

The 330D is a cracking engine - worth lookig at - take an E90 330D saloon for a test drive - as quck as 330i and tax should be lower here in the UK than 330i. The less the tax man gets the better as far as I am concerned!

The 330d Auto is the SAME tax level as the 330i Manual. (29%). The manual diesel is 24% though, but most 330d are autos. (the 330i auto is 30%)

The diesel list price is 1.7% higher, so for the basic cars with auto you would pay 0.7% list more for the DIESEL car.

The initial E92 325i uses the normal N52 engine

The DI engine still uses the Magnesium/Aluminium block, so the weight difference would be prety much the same as between the E90 325i and 330i

Any UK dealer can get you the car on launch day, unless theres many before you on their list! You just need to order SOON. Just shop around for a dealer that can. Wife got her E60 on UK launch day!!! There's no need to wait until Oct/Nov.

Yes, they are going to stockpile the earlier built cars till launch date, so many peple will get them at launch time.

But as you have said, it depends if the allocations that will arrive before then have been sold out or not.

dave_e, if you cannot find a local dealer, call BMW GB in Bracknel and ask for a dealer who has allocation left.

Thanks for the tip Carl. My local dealer promised me a slot in May 2005 and did send me a brochure the day after the news broke last month. Problem is that I would ideally want a 330 (petrol or diesel). If I do have an early slot that would be for the lauch engines and later slots may be getting filled.

Nice problem to have, don't get me wrong!

I will give the guy a call
