I would save my money and avoid any pedal commander/throttle hardware.
Enjoy the car with the BM3 OTS first as it may or may not affect your overall experience.

In my opinion, Sport and Sport+ are perfect the way they are and I worry about how agressive they will become with the XLR.

I think someone here has it so hopefully they will chime in with their opinions.
I agree with this, in my past cars where I had BM3 and driven friends I like having OEM pedal mapping in EcoPro/Comfort but still there's some extra power when you step on it.
It's just the turbo lag that's killing me. Coming from a naturally aspirated M3 maybe I noticed it more than others.
I was a little disappointed in the throttle response in comfort mode with BM3. However... I recently discovered moving the shifter to the left puts the transmission in sport mode leaving the suspension in comfort mode. I originally thought it was just for manual shifting but I was wrong. I know this isn't some big breakthrough but I had no idea. If you want to remain in comfort mode and drive 'spirited', try this. Shouldn't have throttle response issues with this.

Just wondering anyone here runs Sergey Birioukov's n63tu tune? He is pretty famous in some n63/tu groups and people like his n63 intake and n63 tune a lot, pretty solid guy. The thing is his tune runs around $1400 without data logging ability, on the other hand, BM3 is around $900 with data logging and custom tunning possibility.
I understand it's hard to value a tune based on numbers, but for $500 difference, I kinda want to see what's your opinion.

Maybe so, running BM3 yet?

Correct
BM3 cannot make the comfort throttle different than OEM because most people want every mode to remain as it is and full power at Sport/Sport+ levels.

Have not seen another other tune match BM3 OTS data within the N63TU, he is popular with the n63 guys (non-TU).
I would not run any tune in your N63TU without datalogging ability thus using BM3 would be the wise choice for
- Diagnostic / Code Reading
- Datalogging tune of your choice under Wide Open Throttle
- Making sure there are no knocks or timing being pulled in the log
- Ability to flash back to stock, stage1 or stage2 maps at your choice
- Resale value or being able to transfer to your next vehicle

Thanks for the info!

Just talked with him over facebook. He said he can provide custom tune over BM3, so I guess get BM3 OTS first. See how thing goes, and let him do some magic touch if necessary.

What will that cost you after the initial investment on the BM3?

I'm running BM3 Stage 1 and also have a JB4. Stock hardware other than M air filters. I often run with just the flash with the JB4 on map zero, or I'll run E30 and run the JB4 on map 1 which is about the equivalent of BM3 Stage 2. I prefer the driveability of flash only as it's much smoother than the JB4 and I can leave the MAF sensors plugged in. My question, is anyone running the BM3 Stage 2 flash with stock hardware? If so, what fuel? I may give it a try. BM3 says you need catless downpipes for their Stage 2 flash, but that doesn't seem right considering our downpipes aren't really a restriction.

FYI the X runs 12.0 with just the Stage 1 flash and 11.7 with the flash plus JB4 in map 1.

There are a few guys running 11.8x with stage 1 bm3 or other equivalent flash tune on 93 octane.

Man that’s steep , I believe you can have a custom tune done by protuning freaks for the BM3 for a lot less then that.

That's insane.

Some random tuner thinks that setting a few afrs, IAs, boost, vanos, etc is worth $900. Trust me, I know there is more than those settings but most of these tuners create 3 maps, a kill map, an e85 map, and a 93/91 map. They then send out that version of the tune and use that as the starting point, you aren't getting anything custom, maybe some small tweaks depending on the health of your fuel system, if you live at altitude, high temp weather, etc... Please tell me there aren't suckers out there paying this amount to justify his pricing structure.

I got mine tuned. Feels so much strong raw power vs being faster? I guess due to the weight I don't feel it but the car jumps right off the bat. I wish there was a "race" mode lol

Running VRTUNED, but going to go with DME Tuning in spring. VR TUNE is impressive for a starter tune as I got their stage 2 but once I put downpipes, will go with DME

Got a 0-60 run in tonight. Just used Launch Control, for lack of time to putz with technique. Got some wheelspin, but not a smoke show. Very happy with this result.
  • BM3 Stage 1 93 OTS map, a new revision direct from Halim at PTF
  • X5M plugs, gapped to 0.62mm
  • X5M air filter
  • Muffler delete, custom exhaust
