So my "secret" compartment keeps breaking. The metal bars that hold the handle in keep falling out. Anyone have a fix for this or experience this?

I luv that little cubby hole! First thing I do when I get in is separate my X5 fob which only has my office key on it. I drop this part in that little square compartment behind the shift.
Then the brunt of my other keys goes into that drop down compartment. It does not rattle since it is fabric lined. I also keep my Wife's spare Audi key fob (its even bigger than the X5's) all the time in that compartment incase I drive the Audi or need to move it around in my driveway. My previous Toyota Highlander had an ever larger and similar cubby in the same spot. Change (as its dirty and noisy) I keep in a small ziplock in the long compartment along the bottom of the door. That little compartment to the left of the steering column makes for nice use of otherwise wasted space. A wallet would also be good in there, but I'm sure I'd always walk away from the X5 and forget to take the wallet with me When my boating/trailering season is over I can detach that ring of 8 keys next to the pocket knife for the next 7 or so months.

There I stored my coding cable, thinking that it was a great idea...
...until I forgot and looked for it all over my house. Now my coding cable is stored in a pouch together with the coding manuals and that small compartment stays empty, to avoid forgetting something else. |

I keep rolling transponder until I need it, mailbox is key and a usb of only AC/DC For driving on the freeway! Condoms tucked away there in Florida wouldn’t work. |

Did not know there was a secret compartment until came across this thread this morning. Just started utilizing it for sunglasses.

Hahaha it's just the change drawer to the left of the steering wheel.
