What have you done for your tire and wheel security against possible theft?

If you don't have any spacers, the factory ones are good, but use a torque wrench when attaching them, so you don't break the "key".

I tried the style that locks onto your existing bolt heads, but broke the plastic handles on the keys, when trying to remove them. I used wisegrips on the actual key, to take them off. They are plastic and metal, and can easily be removed by drilling them. Somewhat of a visual deterrent, but not actually a....

Turner Motorsport/ECS Tuning sells extended wheel lock bolts that fits if you have spacers. I have used this style on a previous BMW, and I like them.
Hope this helps!

Nothing. If people are going to steal nothing I’m gonna go do will stop them so I don’t worry about it. They can steal the whole car too if they want. Saves me from having to sell it.

if you witnessed it first hand, were you not a witness/willing accomplice to this theft?

If someone really wants your wheels...is there anything out there that hasn't already been made to circumvent it.

All you can do is slow the theft attempt down...your BMW has a tilt sensor (as part of DWA (anti-theft alarm siren system)...so try to park in an area that isn't in a remote location...and always lock the vehicle using the exterior door lock cylinder or the remote because this activates the anti-theft alarm siren system.

Again, locking wheel bolts can be circumvented by professional crooks...so keep up your insurance payments.

The older I get, the more I realize these things are just commodities. They can be replaced. Inconvenient? Sure. Worth worrying about? Nope. Life's too short.

At this point in my life, and based on my own experiences, I choose to focus on the stuff that really matters... the Good Lord and my family top that list. Protecting/replacing wheels is WAY down there. First world problems. YMMV.

True. I don't have wheel locks. I park in my garage 99% of the time. If someone wants to steal them on that rare occasion, be my guest.

Until the garage gets cleaned out- the x5 sits in the driveway. A rash of recent unlocked car entry thefts circulates the area, but no tire thefts. Agreed in insurance. Statistics is a true science- use your insurance company- they go by statistics. You will not go wrong in the long run.

Also promote neighborhood consanguinity- we have new younger couples moving in- it is reviving the area. They are typically younger than my own kids- but God love them- they are happy to be here. More people make for more eyes. Security cameras overlap- honest and helpful discussions with neighbors.

I know- sounds all touchy feely-- but good neighbors are something to be cultivated- and synergized.

Wheels can be replaced, but time can't.
Spending a day chasing new wheels, dealing with police report, insurance company etc. is not something I want to do.
At home I park in the garage, but when away I can't. So when away, I see wheel locks as a deterrent.
Sure, if they really want the wheels, they will figure out a way to get them. But hopefully thieves will be looking for an easy target and move on to another car without wheel locks.
