Cold start X6M
Hi all,
I am fairly new to the X6M and have an issue, or rather a question regarding starting the X6M/X5M from cold or if it has been standing for a while. Average temp here is around 70-80 most days, and when starting RPM fluctuates a bit, then holds about 1500 rpm for about 20-30 seconds before it drops down to idle. This bit, I understand from what I have read here, is normal due to the cold start feature of the engine. What I don't find normal is that if I drive the vehicle up to temp, then park it for a while(say 30+ minutes), it still does this same fluctuate and high RPM before it drops down to idle. If I drive it, then park it for 10-15 minutes, it will start up and drop down straight away like I would expect it to do. Is this normal behaviour? I always feel it sounds like it a runaway at first, making unnecessary noise not what you would expect form a luxury car. If it is not normal, any ideas what issues I should be looking. Thanks. |

16-20 oz bottle of Techron to full tank of gas, two times in row should fix “initial rpm wobble”. The rest is engine management system/ catyictic converters. 1200rpm idle is preheating cats. Upon restart at different time intervals, engine management senses cats have cooled below optimum temp.
Buy top tier gas at busy statio…even Costco, use Techron every few tankfuls and don’t worry about cat preheat cycle |

I'll be it is normal, too. How many miles on your ride? This also sounds similar to old spark plugs, etc. I cannot seem to locate it at this time, but I thought I read that our spark plugs should be replaced every 30k miles.

It has done around 60K at the moment.
According to the iDrive the plugs are not due until next year, but have ordered in a set so will change them when they arrive. Air filters were changed in April. Can't find anyone that has Techron here where I am, but read that STP Ultra 5-in-1 is a good alternative, so have run through one bottle of this so far. Will get another bottle asap. |
