Just brought my car in for the first time since I bought it
Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well on this beautiful Saturday morning. Had to do a oil change on my 2017 x5 so I brought it in to my dealership and first of all I paid $200 for a 3 year/unlimited oil change (as long as the oil maintenance comes up) which I thought was a no brainer, whats the catch though?
Now they did an inspection and I also got quoted for: 2 new front tires - $1060.16 Alignment - $359.95 Cooling system service (drain & refill) - $259.95 I will definitely shop around for the tires but what about the alignment and cooling system service? Should I just shop around for that as well or is it worth it to just get it done through BMW? Also recently we had a ton of rain and I had a leak on my driver side floor, I brought my car to my guy and he ran some air through the sun roof drain and when I brought it to BMW to check it out my advisor told me he's going to charge me about $380 or something for a water leak test. I did purchase a 3rd party extended warranty for 5 years but I have to call to see if they cover leaks. I believe the problem is fixed now since my guy did blow some air down the sun roof drain. What makes me more upset is when I had a CPO warranty expiring and I brought my car in because I had to get my back windshield replaced and I told him to also check out the leak while they had the car for 4 days but it was never done. They told me they will take a look at it but I would have to leave it for a few more days but at that point I couldn't leave my car with them for another x amount of days since they didn't provide me with a loaner (couldn't schedule one for 3 weeks). I personally feel like they should've checked it out like he told me while he had it for 4 days and I wouldn't even be having this issue. |

The catch is that the built-in oil monitoring is far too long an interval. You are inviting sludge and premature wear of an insanely expensive engine.
Essentially, it's worth it to take a haircut on oil changes for the opportunity to get you in there for the massively overpriced goodies. Avoid alignments unless you have some evidence of poor tire wear. The coolant change service fills the pocketbooks of the dealership. Modern coolant is going to be good for 7+ years. In the past, this was not the case - but, times have changed. |

Ever since the Value Services went into effect and oil changes at the dealership became $99, they started finding a lot of other things that needed attention all of a sudden.
Funny how that works, right? |

Also I forgot to mention they said I need to change my spark plugs and they quoted me about $650 and change the microcabin air filter which the quote was for I believe $200 if I'm not mistaken. Should I just take care of it all myself with my independent shop?
