I was confused by "re pair", too.
Did you mean to type "repair" as in "fix something that is broken"? Or did you mean to type "re-pair" as in reconnecting the remote to communicate with the car? BTW...I've never been able to reboot the iDrive in my 2014 f15 X5 nor my 2013 f06 or 2015 f06 by pressing & holding the VOL knob.

Ah...okay.
The closest thing we have of "pairing" our remotes is when the EWS immobilizing feature has failed to communicate. When this occurs...you simply put the remote next to the icon on the steering column (which is where the ring aerial is located). The ring aerial powers up the transponder in the remote (through induction) which then sends the encrypted 128-bit code to the BDC & DME...if the encryption matches...then the car will start. Again, all of this is done through induction and the remote doesn't need the battery inside the key to start the car. The battery inside the remote powers the RF (radio frequency) signal that lock/unlocks the vehicle...and allows comfort access to work.

This sounds like a battery issue (remote battery). This is also a common problem where replacing the battery doesn't work immediately and either a different brand of battery or manipulation of the battery in the remote (making sure the clip is holding it correctly etc)...finally gets the remote to work with a fresh battery.
You will find the same issue across multiple BMW forums where remote battery replacement is problematic. You can also check the remotes operation by swapping the batteries in them.

I didnt do anything. wonder if a few cycles re-paired the remote...or knockiing it around some in my pocket, etc made the battery connect properly. Last edited by 50iXman; 11-21-2023 at 06:45 AM.. |

We won't question the BMW Bavarian gods...we'll just be thankful the issue resolved itself.
