The only thing that I'm thinking wireless vs non besides the convince factor...that apple is soon going to likely change from lightning to USB C if not this year defiantly next year when I'm due for a new phone 📱... hate to be stuck with a dongle...

The USB C is on the phone end, the other side will be regular USB. New cable.

Gotcha, so would you have to disassemble the whole thing again to switch the cable?

I may be missing something. Is your lightning cable currently fixed to the car and not plugged into a USB port?

Ya you would but I doubt they'll switch to C anytime soon man. Definitely not by this fall. No reason for them to switch at the moment and Apple is all about proprietorship more than anyone else. Lightning cable is very capable and was far ahead of its time when they developed it. But hey you never know. Apple does surprise me and piss me off all in one day for the last several years.

Well I don't have anything right now, so I'm not sure....I thought that the lighting cable is attached to your CarPlay Module and you would have to take everything apart again and hope that the lighting cable was not soldered on...

I’ve driven a number of cars with CarPlay. The phone with the cable that comes with the phone, plugs into a USB port on the car. Just like plugging it into a charger at home.

This is expected behavior from a canbus interceptor. The only thing that will switch carplay off is getting in reverse gear.

Unichip. Never heard of unique until you linked the thread. Interesting that they say it's the same as joyauto but this just reaffirms I don't want wireless since you lose steering wheel controls and some other functionality.

Wired it is. Probably just go with the one with the best price at this point. And the UK one seems over priced.

In what way? I've just never heard of them. Unichip and bimmertech were the only options and both have been used several times. Would prefer bimmertech but they can't get their sh#* together and make theirs work full screen.

If you click the above link and the associated thread most folks prefer unique, because of things like microphone integration etc....

It still requires their microphone from what I read. At least for the wireless configuration.

So just got out of a company Kia with CarPlay...

I hope the same behaviour is available in the BMW aftermarket CarPlay.

A) when CarPlay connected, the phone button activates the CarPlay phone app to make/receive calls. Otherwise the onboard phone system is activated
B) when CarPlay connected, the map button activates Apple maps app. Otherwise on board.
C) when CarPlay connected, long press voice button actives Siri
D) when CarPlay playing media, the media buttons control CarPlay media.
E) You can be playing radio/CD etc. while using CarPlay. Eg. radio plays while using Waze, you can hear the radio underneath the waze navigation instructions. It even quietens the radio a bit during the navigation instruction. If you decide to play CarPlay media (Apple Music, Spotify, Tunein radio, etc.), it overtakes the car radio.
F) if CarPlay is playing media, it integrates back into the main Kia system. E.g. if I’m on the home screen of the Kia system, I can see the media including the artwork on the Kia home screen.

As an added observation, playing a song via CarPlay, then disconnecting, the song continues via Bluetooth; there is a difference to the sound. Bluetooth seems louder and punchier.

Can we categorically confirm which brand of aftermarket CarPlay does or doesn’t do any of the above?

I can tell you that oem airplay on bmw works exactly like this and none of the aftermarket ones I saw had all of these working.

True none of these work with joyeauto as well. I am just finding new ways to get around stuff working like, keep audio to oem(don't switch to aux input) and get

1. previous/next button working
2. Call button support
3. Can use Radio/Spotify/BMW Apps

Exit CarPlay just before you reach your destination, so that 360 camera can work flawlessly.
For me CarPlay is becoming more of a commute convenience and since reaching on time matters, I am using it everyday.

Wired applications work from what I remember. It's wireless that you lose some of these abilities due to the wireless signal conversion. The signal for controls isnt transmitted via Bluetooth but can be transmitted to the phone via lightning cable.

Would like to see the guy who just got the joy auto compare the wired vs wireless. I believe it does both if I recall.
