You can check the link below too - the N63TU (TU, for 'technical update'), also known as the N63B44O1 was used in the 2014-2018 X5's, which covers all 5 years of the F15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N63 |

Model year and build date aren’t necessarily the same. You can tell the officially “model year” by the 10th digit of the VIN. Again, the official “model year” does not always match the build date…sometimes a new model year may start early…or start late and not coincide with the build date year.
Examples: The e39 5 series in the US market debuted later than usual due to the start of the OBD II mandate. The rest of the world saw the e39 debut in late 1995 as a 1996 model year. But in the US, the e39 never had an official “1996 model year…it debuted as a 1997 model year starting around June/1996. This also prolonged the e34 5 series 1995 model year and they can have a build date up to sometime in April 1996. Again, you can tell what the official models year is based on the 10th VIN digit. It goes through the alphabets…then goes to numerical digits…then starts over again with the alpha characters: You can see the N63 engine iterations in the list below…and their model year (not build date):
