m-sport steering wheel trim vs M steering wheel trim

I would like to swap the current trim piece with the trim off of an M car does anyone know if that is a straight up swap piece or do more parts need to be traded out

Have you tried looking up each steering wheel in one of the online part databases to see what all of the pieces are for each wheel...and if there are any shared parts/part nbrs? If there are shared parts/part nbrs...then it may be doable...but if there are a lot of different parts/part nbrs that are incompatible...especially big ticket items like the air bag itself...then it may not be an easy swap.

If you are unfamiliar with any of them...try one of the ones below...put in the last 7 digits of your VIN, then click your way to the steering wheel diagrams to see what is available for your model/model year/build date etc.:
  1. www.realoem.com
  2. www.BMWfans.info
  3. Www.etk.cc

The diagrams below are from the f15 X5 (1st diagram) and the f13 M6 (2nd diagram)...go to their respective diagrams and then check the part nbrs to see if they are compatible:

this makes me believe all it takes is the front trim piece and that back cover.. only a matter of confirming the paddle shifter holes are the same size. ill buy some parts and report back.

Why trial and error when I have done it and sold them.
I can provide you with the correct parts, all you need to do just PM me last 7 of VIN and I'll reply with a quote.

Just did this yesterday with the F85 MP alcantara wheel.

It also depends on what you want to get out of this. The wheel itself is the same but the M has the colored Stitching.

Then there is the lower trim section $190 or $300 for cf. That can be swapped on its own but for it to have the pass through opening you need a new plastic back plate which is another $50 as I forgot about and didn't order.

But all the switches, paddles, and wiring is the same.

It's also super easy. Whole thing took me 45 min from start to finish and that was referencing F30 guides. I took a bunch of pics and was gonna make a DIY
