I agree with an earlier post and always go to the dealership for the warranty on the work, guaranteed OEM parts and a larger organization to go after if things go sideways. I paid $1800 and change at insurance pricing. It would've been over $2000 at "retail." The dealerships will still make good margins on insurance pricing. Just ask them when they deliver the quote if their pricing is retail and can they do better. Tell them that will incentivize you to continue to go to them vs going elsewhere. Hopefully they'll want to win your business long-term.
I can't believe they didn't cover this since they basically admitted it was their negligence. BMW is perplexing sometimes.

It's a little annoying, yes. Especially because it's just out of the manufacturers warranty ... It's a 2015 with 45k miles - warranty is 4 yr, 40k

I actually reached out to BMW NA to see if they would give service credit given the issue... No dice.

Negative. At least in my experience.

Suggestions needed. Go to a official BMW dealer, a dealer in New England, or DIY? I don't think I'm willing to pay this much. It's absurd. My X5 is 2014 and has only 67K miles.

I just had my lower left control arm and BJ replaced under my extended warranty. Total cost was $1200 Canadian at the local dealer. I had the squeek over low speed bumps. 106K KM on my 2015.

If I were you, I would DIY. The cost savings alone are huge and its not an overly hard job assuming you can get the vehicle up high enough and have tools required to break the higher torque suspension components and have worked with balljoint before.

You would definatly save money. Just make sure you check your alignment after.

Search and there are numerous threads for control arms. As Maverick mentioned he has a great DIY for the lower wishbone. For your thrust arm you could buy the bushing separately https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ng-31126851693 (for non active steering vehicles) and have them pressed at a shop. If you have active steering theres a different part# bushing. I paid 120$ for both bushings and 200$ to have them pressed/installed

why not get fully assembled parts and just have your pet or toddler do it? If you don't have a pet or toddler you can do it while you sleep.

You're the reason I even have a thought of DIY. I saw your post and it was so detailed and simple that I thought why not just DIY. Thanks for that thread!!!

Yeah saving over 1000-1500USD. My extended warranty just got over and I have not maintained my car from outside the dealership ever before so I'm just a little skeptical.

Yeah I would do the same if I can just find a trustable person to do it. I'm looking for friends that have workshops so I can look at the work while he's doing it. I'll get the oem parts myself.

Same here man I'm in greater Boston. I usually go to Nashua for everything. They are very cheap compared to shops in Mass because of min wage according to them. Let me know if you find someone. I'm on a lookout as well just to fit the parts.

Yeah, that's the way to go. Just waiting to figure out what parts I need. BMW already sent me a video just can't figure out what exact parts he pointed out. Thank you.

What's the symptom of the lower control arms (or the bushings) needing replacement?

On my previous car (a Range Rover Sport) I had the LCA replacement done at 80,000kms when it started clunking on low speed bumps, entering driveway et cetera.

On my X5 at 75,000kms I have no such clunking, but I do hear squeaky sounds coming from underneath the car on slow bumps when driving with the windows open...

In addition to the squeaks, when the front 'trust arm' bushings begin to fail, while braking you may feel pulsation as if the rotors are warped. Also the front tires wear on outside faster than normal, esp. the 20" and larger ones.

Same thing. It's the LCA. Big long piece with 2 bushings and a ball joint. Connects to the subframe, coil over, and ball joint at the knuckle (under the rotor)

I just took a trip to the mountains and now it's screaming at me. Pisses me off. Can't get 40k miles out of a control arm is pathetic. Wish I bought the first one from FCP. Next one will for sure be from FCP.

Bushings

Is it better to replace the thrust arm or just do the bushings? Knowing that you will have to replace it again down the road. What bushings y'all recommend and from where?

Thanks
