BMW extended warranty costs?

Hi all,

I recently bought a 2016 x5 50i with 26,500 miles and in four months the factory warranty will expire. I want an extended warranty for the car, given my plan to keep it for 4 - 5 years and have decided that given the overall complexity of the car, the v8 engine, and unknown care / use during its prior ownership, that I would prefer a warranty as opposed to a war-chest of savings for potential repairs.

Does anyone have a recent price on the BMW extended warranty offerings? - I believe there are multiple levels of coverage. I am not talking about CPO, obviously, just the extended warranty you can buy from BMW. I'd like to compare those costs to those from third-party providers and decide if the extra cost justifies the BMW-backed warranty.

Prices are different based on the provider and location. Best way to find out is to spend 45 minutes on the phone and get quotes from different BMW dealerships and 3rd party companies.

Extended coverage for your vehicle can be had from ANY BMW dealer.

It’s well worth your time to contact as many dealers as you can. After several calls you’ll notice that pricing FOR THE EXACT SAME COVERAGE will be all over the board. Just make sure you’re talking apples to apples if you’re new to this exercise.

I'm new to shopping for an extended warranty. Over the last 18 years or so I've bought new cars, generally trading them before the factory warranty expired. I liked my 535i so much though that I kept it for almost 8 years, a significant record, but it was time to replace it. I also moved out to the country two years ago and pile on the miles now (80 miles a day)- between that and the cost of a new X5 I thought I'd at least look at used, and found the perfect X5, but I'm not accustomed to looking for a warranty. With my 535i the warranty expired in 2016, but I knew the car's complete history and how it had been used, so it didn't bother me that I was out of warranty, and the only issue I ever had was a water pump at 65K miles.
