Hey man, nice picture of X5 taking a winter beating like a champ. Sorry for off topic, but how much was trans and x-case oil change and was it at the dealer or indy shop? One forum member said it's about $600. I'm just trying to find out average fair price before I go in to be slaughtered.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Yes, it's not cheap.
Transfer case oil change is actually, not too bad - $200 (with labor and everything). It's the transmission oil change that is $1000. On the positive side - it will be buttery smooth for next 60k miles or so.

They charge fixed amount of hours for each job, regardless of actual time spent. We do the same where I work, so I accept it as part of a market economy.
I don't think guy really worked over an hour and a half.

I get it but the markup on parts and the labor costs seam very high. That seems to be higher than dealer? No?

Funny you say that....I've told by this indy shop that they don't mark them up! On the other hand, their hourly rate of $158/hr could "reflect" the absence of a mark up.
I had been given a lower quote by another indy shop, but I don't know if the new pan was included in the quote.
I trust these guys as they spent a ton of extra time -beyond what I was charged- on an engine light I had last year.

I ask as I have extended warranty till 100k and plan on doing a tranny flush soon but if using non genuine bmw parts can void any possibly tranny failure think I might have to reconsider.

Some people believe they get a better product by spending more I guess.
