ASD coded off- this is a must
Finally got it done. BO system sounds much better and now actually somewhat pleased with the system. My manhart sounds that much better as I actually know what the system sounds like without the mix of prerecorded stock exhaust sounds coming from the front seats
If you are on the fence about this and you have BO then this is a must. If you are planning any exhaust mods then this is also a must |

Can the dealership turn this off? I keep seeing hire a coder or something. Seems like BMW would have a tech in staff that could un f**k their cars lol.

Technically, they can do this, but they won't for legal reasons. The best you'll get from a dealership is for them to turn a blind eye to any of the coding you do yourself, or hire someone to do for you.

Can you be specific on which modules/lines you changed to turn ASD off? Thanks.

ASD
i would say do it.
The BO system really shines whent he ASD is turned off. The highs acutally sound clear now and not muffled with other frequencies and sounds. The BO system actually sounds like a higher end system. I mentioned this in another post that the BO systems is still not up to par compared to the money charged and previous cars and systems i have experienced but its much better now. So if enjoy hifi music then this would be the best mod money can buy as for exhaust sounds, I have an aftermarket manhart axle back system. When installed i thought the system sound very similar to stock and this was due to the ASD mixing in with the manhart, enigne noise. Once coded off I can really hear the manhart which actually sounds much better now and a lot less like the stock system. Exactly what was I looking for. Exhaust noises are actually coming from the right direction and that of the rear of the car. Cabin noise is quieter which I appreciate until i want to get on it. Sounds much more natural now |

Anyone know anyone in the greater NYC area for coding? I guess I could take a look on one of the other forums since they'll have more traffic... I'm increasingly wanting to get ASD turned off.

I bought the cable and installed the software just to turn asd off. Love the difference. I can still hear the exhaust when I step on it. I upgraded from a '10 x6 and the first thing I noticed when I test drove the new x6m was the "fakeness" of the exhaust sound. Now, it sounds natural (just not as loud).

I purchased the cable from a seller on eBay (OBD2 ENET Ethernet Cable for BMW F-Series Coding i3 i8 ESYS 3.26.1 OBD-II RJ45) and they sent me the links and the software I needed and install instructions. They had a cheatsheet they also provide for the most frequent setting changes, like turning off asd. Hope that helps.
