Curb Rash help
First time post. Just got my X5M a couple of months ago and hit a curb with it. (so sad and embarassing). I was wondering if I should even try to fix it myself or should I just go to a wheel repair shop and see what they can do. Its the 21 in 612M black style rims
Thanks for any feedback |

Ouch! At least it doesn't look too bad. Professional rim repair shops charge about $125 per rim to repair curb rush and of course their result will look very good
If you want to try some DIY - you can buy a ready kit for black rims and do it yourself over weekend. Depends if you have time and more importantly if you want to try to do it - it's a fun little project to be proud of (if results will be good lol). |

Find your local Alloy Wheel Repair shop and get it redone. It's straight gloss black, so you'll have no issues. I also took the opportunity to pay them 5$ per wheel to deep clean the other three wheels. Completely worth it.

Agree with taking it to (or mobile) wheel repair shop.
If this was the standard grey/silver wheel, i'd be much more concerned. On my 16 X5M I curbed one and the repair was hideous. With these being the black gloss, they will bog up/sand back the damage and paint. It'll be a perfect repair i'd say.

My better half curbed two feels after having the car for barely a month I had a guy come by and he fixed both wheels in less than 20 mins and the results are amazing. You can't tell that they were ever curbed. And this was on the polished wheels, not the black ones. . |

Those wheels need a serious cleaning! Lots of dirt on the inside of the wheels. Time to buy some proper brushes!
In regards to the curb rash: I've seen prices go from $50 - $100 per wheel here locally for good work. Honestly, unless you're really OCD, you can just leave it also. Not the end of the world. |

That looks pretty mild based on the photos. As long as there is no apparent denting or deformity this is a quick fix by a wheel repair outfit, as noted by others! I've had mixed results trying to fix curb rash myself in the past. It depends on how much of a perfectionist you are, and how much a 75% job will bother you compared to a 100% perfect job.

Ya I'm a little OCD about the curb rash. Thanks everyone. I'll get it repaired when I find time. Meanwhile, ya I noticed its pretty dusty in those rims when I took those photos. I just my 1200 mile service and they "washed" my car for me. I think they don't include the rims in their wash =)

Kind of hard to see your front tires in the mirrors, but your point is well taken. Better yet, surround view allows you to see all four wheels in relation to the curb, I use it every time I park near a curb. |
