Which speed radar detector are you using?
I am looking for a radar detector mostly use it on freeway. Most of the time I am well behave in the city and urban area. Which one are you using? Is it easy to use, less false alarm? I am fully understand the best detector to avoid speeding ticket is to drive slow. But it seems like impossible to do this.
Thanks in advance for any input. |

Veil, Blinder, K40, LidaTek. It depends on your area and your budget. Around here some dealerships install and provide the parts and the cost is anywhere from $1200-1900 depending on which you go with it and if done by the dealer they will not void your warranty for any spliced wires or connections that may have been done by an outside party. The main thing is that there is no one solution and most people who "speed" or go on these rallies believe that you have to use a collection of items for maximum protection and avoidance.

I am surprised you say that since you're in VA and that brick is visible from a mile away but for me the V1 is basically useless in my area because almost everyone is using laser now and when I travel north the only officials using the traditional radars are the town police and not the troopers.

I just went through this exercise recently and was between the V1 and Escort Max 360. Ended up choosing the Escort Max 360 as I believe its technology is a bit more advance than the V1, it also has GPS integrated so it has an auto learn feature that will eliminate false alarms which the V1 won't do.

I have always had escorts, currently running Max 360's in both cars. These or any of my past escorts have never failed me. Love the GPS capability and even used my detector to explain my case to a cop after being pulled over for sounding like I was speeding lol.
On a side note, I am getting more and more false alarms from vehicles. I assume it's the sonar systems or something but I can follow a car enough to know that the signal is coming from it. |

infiniti seems to be the most common vehicle which throws off detectors or at least from my experience and observation.

back in the day they were selling detectors as "early alert devices" to circumvent some regional restrictions. the devices warned of weather, traffic conditions, and would repeat the messages that were on the illuminated highway signs. these days i don't think they do any of that but they do warn about speed cameras, red light cameras, along with the typical alerts one would want from a radar detector. so in the end even one does not speed (whether that was a tongue in cheek comment or serious) it does warn about overzealous traffic devices which one could be made aware of.

i know v1 detects laser but once you're hit with it then it doesnt matter you're caught and if i recall correctly in va you cannot legally have radar detector or jammer so i would opt for the stealth jammer only because it would be more difficult to spot and more effective. here they are legal except on commercial vehicles or vehicles over 18k GVWR. the troopers mainly have LTI Ultralyte LRB and the highway patrol use similar... the town/local guys use Stalker DSR or sometimes both. GEICO supplies law enforcement here with state of the art equipment. it pays for itself in premium increases and dropping high risk drivers. only when we go to our other place do the small town police use the traditional radars we've all seen over the years.

Sorry for off topic, but been Russian I have a dashcam in all my cars (just a second nature/habit) in case if something goes wrong so I can prove I wasn't at fault (not to accuse others)
So I was given warning twice for a radar detector, because police officers thought that's what it was. Had hard time explaining that it's a dashcam lol - I mean come on, haven't they watched youtubes that are 99% made of Russian dashcam videos? |

Haven't heard anyone mention the Uniden R3. Testing has it as one of the (if not the) best long range detector right now on a few testing sites.
I don't have one, but am seriously looking at one... although I'm moving to VA this summer for a few years where these things are illegal... wish uniden made a custom install hidden version!
