Yes steering wheel and idrive controller both does the same thing.
I saw your unichip review here, so glad I did not choose them. I have no flickering issues with my screen, it flawless.

I have my car Bluetooth still turned off, so no blackouts since then. I am going to turn on car Bluetooth today to see if the screen black-out issue comes back.

Like I mentioned before joyeauto music quality is not that great, I prefer oem sound, it also help me pick calls using call buttons on steering wheel.. So this is the trade-off.

I did but given I only wanted CarPlay I was a bit hesitant to get all that is required for the Avin. Price is pretty similar and I'm not an android guy so the only advantage would be CarPlay and a touch screen. The rest of it would be wasted as far as I'm concerned. Well for shins and giggles I contacted Unique auto last night and posed some questions to see if their set up would be better or have the same issues we are complaining about with unichip.

Their response this morning stated that the camera issue would still be an issue. No 360 camera inside of CarPlay.

They said the steering wheel controls work flawlessly. However I caveat that cuz I've seen in the F30 side that people are complaining that when trying to play radio stations using the scroll wheel that it scrolls both stations and apps on the CarPlay simultaneously. And when selecting a radio station they also select some random app.

So there is clearly a bug there.

So with that said those are my ONLY 2 issues. My white line of dots on the top of the screen is either gone or I don't notice it anymore. So I don't care about that as of now. And everything else works great.

I can see the advantage of wireless but I given not everything I play sound from on my phone will work with CarPlay. (ESPN radio, etc) I will lose this if I went wireless given you have to use CarPlay for phone calls and thus disconnect from car Bluetooth.

Edit: also forgot to add. Angie from unichip mentioned last night they did get a couple cars to work with 360 camera so she gave me some iterations to try this morning that worked for them. So although I'm not hopeful. I'll report back how it goes.

But so far I'm happy with what we got and for the price.

I can confirm that yes the buttons for camera does not work while in CarPlay but it does work just fine when you put the car in reverse. Both back up camera and 360 work fine in reverse.

I'll just have to get used to quickly hitting my preset 1 button on the cd changer and then hitting the camera button. To me while he's a bit of a shame, not a deal breaker as this is literally just adding 1 extra button push and it's a very quick and snappy swap from CarPlay to iDrive and back using the 8 preset.

I have no issues with my unichip unit at all... for me to push 8 to see the 360 is no issue at all for me.

In regards to the resolution... I do agree that you can see the lower resolution on the daytime Waze map... I switched my default to the night time map because I feel like the dark colors are much crisper on Waze on this big screen...

Haha I felt the exact same way. The night view is more clear than the day. Did you do that just in the app.

Ya and just to be clear it's not a flicker Per say it's a single white line that flashes at the top row of pixels once every minute or so. I don't even notice it any more unless you're starring st the screen for an extended period of time.

Confirmed with them today that steering wheel function through car while CarPlay is open conflicts with their unit. So I can't smoothly select a radio station while having car play open. This may be my deal breaker. Possibly considering Avin now as I can simply download Waze and Spotify to the unit and run it natively with my phone simply hotspot for data connection. This would save me some money too as they charge an extra $100 for CarPlay dongle. And Siri ain't worth $100. Haha

The joyeauto wireless unit has been working fine for me, as far as 360 camera if the PDC sensors detect anything the unit goes right to 360. when going in reverse the backup camera works just like before although it cuts off as soon as you put in drive.

Would love to see a video that your 360 camera shows up while in CarPlay mode if your pdc detects something.

You would be the first and only person to have this working. Not saying I don't believe you. But I don't believe you lol.

So it works based on the gears? Normally my 360 view pops up when drive towards an obstical (without switching gears).

No this is NOT what we're talking about unfortunately. As you showed the 360 camera works ONLY while in reverse is the issue. You can't manually activate by pressing the button on the center console. And normally the 360 camera should automatically come up when your PDC activates which it did not as you approached your garage door. Take yourself out of CarPlay and do the same test and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The issue is that when I attempt to pull into a parking spot I like to use my 360 camera to show how I'm lined up and to prevent me from hitting any curbs when pulling in or backing out of parking spots.

So jaydawg2288 you are manually going out of the CarPlay by long pressing back button? Lol, I thought you said unit goes right to 360(from CarPlay as soon as PDC activates)

Ok let me get this straight, I put up the video because some asked me to. I said in the video that when you put it in reverse is when it happens. You all kill me you don't have CarPlay, want to have it but it not perfect like factory installed which you can't get at that price. Then bitch about it, no one is forcing you to get it it's an option that's all.

I'm forcing myself to use carplay, but lack of actual radio while using carplay is bad. I don't know if that's on apple or what. I've never actually used bmw's carplay implementation, but I'm assuming it's pretty similar to this one.

Those white lines on top are still present in my case, and are really annoying imo. Yes, you don't notice them if you're not looking at the screen but they are there lol.

I did start to have more issues with the unit tho. Last couple of days, it would just crash. I get a black screen, which I think unit is just restarting, then I'm prompted to plug my phone again, so I have to unplug it and then plug it back again. Cable I'm using is relatively new, and it's official Apple cable not a 3rd party one.

As far as 360 goes, yeah I just have to press #8 button when parking, but in doing that my music stops playing

Not a perfect solution, but for anyone else looking to get one, I would wait. Just use the waze on the phone, if you have sounds turned on it will warn you about police or roadwork with voice over your speakers, not like you need a visual representation IMO.

I've sent unichip an email days ago with videos for each of the issues, no one has ever gotten back to me. so yeah.

What's wrong with the radio? Mine still works. Are you in aux audio? That won't allow radio and audio from CarPlay at the same time.
