I too have the click!!! What I noticed is when the wheel is turned and the clicking is present if i depress the brakes slightly the clicking goes away. Very repeatable. Also it seems that the clicking starts if i'm pressing the gas and turning. If the car is coasting and I turn, no clicking.

Hi guys, I'm considering some CPO '15-'16 X5Ms and noticed the following on the warranty inquiry for one I'm interested in.

Is this Thread related to this claim description? If so, I would want to avoid it as it doesn't seem like there is a permanent fix

I can't answer if this specific item is the same issue as this Thread, but knock on wood, I've had my 2015 BMW X5M for 3 years now and no noise with ~9700 miles on it.

I even mentioned it to the SA when I had the car in for service this past week and he claimed that he hadn't ever heard of this issue with the X5's or X5M's... . I don't know if he really hadn't ever heard of it or just didn't want to go down that path of discussing it and the various options.

Just my personal opinion, but I've never heard of the cars that do have this issue being a problem (other than the noise).

With that said... I'm in NO way saying that this is acceptable in a vehicle like this and especially an "M" car, but it's almost like the loud brakes, why in a vehicle like this should we have to hear noises on a vehicle that we've actually paid more for...

FWIW it's worth I took my '17 in twice to get it fixed. The first time the fix was OK for a couple of thousand miles, but came back. The second time it seems like they have fixed it for good, because it's been about 20k miles and the sound hasn't come back.

What was the second fix? Do you have the copy of the RO that shows what they did? Can you show us? Thank you.

It looks like they just did the friction washer again. Here is the full text:

"CUSTOMER STATES THERE IS A LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING ON THE FRONT END.
Movement between the inner contact surfaces of the brake disc and drive flange of the wheel bearing hub. WT - test drove and verified customer complaint. Found locking noise when turning/cornering. Checked vehicle repair history and found SIB 34 05 15 were performed last visited. Found friction washer installed between the drive flange of the wheel bearing and the inner side of the brake disc. Performed new update of SIB 34 05 15. R.I front wheels. Cleaned the rims on the inside on the bearing surface to the brake disk. Installed friction washers. Test drove and the noise no longer present."

Also as another FYI, I also had the brake squeal and they said the car had "outdated" brake pads and installed new ones, and no more squeal.

Had my 2018 in to check the clicking which I also had on my 2016.

I was told that in July 2017 the issue was resolved on all future vehicles.

So while they know I have the issue, they’re raising a new PUMA case.

Round and round we go..

My 2017 X5 M has 13k miles on it. It is currently in the shop getting the axles replaced from the clicking noise. It seems to be an issue...

Still waiting on info from the new PUMA raised on my 2018 X5M.

Went with a mate to test drive a 2015 X5M and the clicking sound was as I remember it from my old 2016 - incredibly loud and annoying.

From what I can gather, they’ve fitted something to 2018 models which makes the sound quieter, but does not get rid of it completely.

I’m not sure there is a permanent fix.

What's your production date?

Anyone else here with a 2018 X5M experiencing this? Was hoping this was resolved before I purchased my 2018

My car was built 12/17 and delivered in 01/18 - Registered 02/18 and mine had the click.

It went in about 1k miles ago and they fitted the gaskets to the hubs and its been fine so far since....

Cheers

I usually say this with apprehension, that I may jinx myself - but my 2015 X6M does not have this noise. I listen very keenly (front windows down) whenever I get a chance. Oh boy, gotta run to check again in case I just jinxed myself …

There is no mistaking the noise.

If you have it, you will hear it.

Do you have specifics on what they did the second time?

looks like the 1st repair wasn't done correctly.

There are 4 friction plates that are to be installed 2 per side.

Glad to hear the noise has gone.

Cheers
