Washer fluid low light - but it's full???
So I emptied and filled the washer fluid reservoir with distilled water. It gave me the washer fluid low light, which I learned is because it has not only a fill sensor but also some kind of chemical analysis sensor and will throw a low light if the right fluid isn't in there. So I bought some BMW washer concentrate and added it. I started with 2 ounces. Still had the light so I increased to 4 ounces. But the light remains!
Anyone have any ideas? The reservoir is completely full. I have distilled water in there mixed with 4 ounces of BMW's washer concentrate. I'm stumped at this point because 4 ounces is already more than the bottle says you need to put in. |

Bad sensor? That's about the only thing I can think of...

Faulty or failed sensor. Typically occurs if someone used rain-x or similar style washer fluid.

Not sure if you are the original owner or not but if you are then the obvious question is did you fill it all the way up? If so then I would wager the sensor failed.

It does seem based on that that something went wrong and the sensor failed. It basically had a one trigger life in it because the first time the low washer fluid light went off in the car's history, it never turned back off. |

Because the dealers are, in general, retarded and know far less about the cars than the members on this board do. Going to the dealer is the last resort in my head, not the first.

You have a bad sensor. It should be easy for them to diagnose and replace. Keep in mind that while the community here knows a fair amount, the vast majority probably don't do a ton of digging into and fixing problems since most of us are under warranty. There's not a lot of engine pulls, crazy internal upgrades, or deep mechanical repairs going on.

My experience has been quite the opposite. So you are going to avoid the dealer, purchase a new sensor somewhere, replace it yourself - all on a new X6 M?

Ask here first, go to dealer second. That's my policy. Going to the dealer first would be like walking into a dealer to buy a car with no idea what the going rate for that car is elsewhere. Be equipped with more info, get a better result. Half the time car dealers say something is impossible when it isn't and then I have to bring them the print out from the message boards for them to realize they can actually do it.

So I just took my car into the dealer for normal maintenance and had them check the washer fluid and why this might be happening. Since I would fill it up and literally a day or 2 later it would ask for more they decided to check the nozzles both on the hood for the windshield and the bumper nozzles for the headlights. They found that the headlight nozzles were leaking fluid and had them replaced. So i'm hoping that everything is fine now and if the issue continues ill post back.

*This fixed my issue 100% and within 5 minutes.... I did not need a new sensor or a tank replacement.. I got this fix straight from a BMW service tech.. You have nothing to loose if your light is already stuck on when the washer tank is full.. Worth a try. https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1663527 Last edited by ~ViO~; 10-31-2019 at 09:56 AM.. |
