Drivetrain malfunction error on 2018 X5M

Well I received this error message on Friday night after driving the car and then stopping at my house and going back out for a bit. It then it went away and then came back up again on my Tuesday morning startup, but hasn't come back again. Anyone have any clue what could cause this? I'm running Dina stage 2 with carbon fiber intake and I just had the H&R VTF lowering springs put on last week. Otherwise, I've only done coding and that was back in December.

Were you driving the car hard when it first came on? How many miles on your plugs (though it seems like your car is a 2018, so probably not many miles)? Typically cars with tunes or piggyback’s put more demand on your ignition, so once you have some miles on your plugs they can eventually misfire and cause the error you are seeing. I know it would be a pain but you could remove the dinan and see if it don’t come back, I would wait and see if you get it again. If you do have 20,000 or more miles though I would change your plugs. Then again you can always take your tune out and bring it to the dealer and get it checked.

It's got 4500 miles on it and the Dinan was put on by the dealer and that's covered under warranty. I was driving it kind of hard the first time it came on but the second time I just started it up. I don't think it could be the plugs but who knows. I've got an appointment on Monday with the dealer so let's see.

I agree probably not the plugs , those are practically new. Hey you got a warranty so let them take care of it, good luck and let us know what they come up with.

Most likely coils and plugs. It seems to be a Common issue with tunes.

I was having the same issue. Replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils and the truck was good as new. I believe it was 2 ignition coils that needed to be replaced but I went ahead and replaced them all.

I have no tune and even after spark plugs + ignition coils change the problem is still there (DT malfunction + engine "shaking" + no power). Then no problem after turning the engine off and on.

I used several cans of BG K44 Platinum but even after this we got the error again (but with longer interval) so I'm trying to solve it again somehow...

Another clue are occasional slow, boring, sleepy, choked? cold starts so I suspect injectors or something with airflow (mass air flow sensor, ...), any ideas?

I'm not stage 2 yet but I am reading around the forum that if you eliminate cat/o2 monitoring and the cold start option on the bm3 set up it eliminates a lot of issues for people (shaking, rough idle and CEL). I doubt dinan gives you those options. Take it to the dealer. Have it removed and/or refunded. Go bm3.

Toggle Dinan on/bypass via Bluetooth app. See what it does
