Prepping for Dyno?

Dinan stage one goes in today. Dinan air intake already installed. Anything I should do to prepare for a Dyno? Also, what questions should I be asking? I do know the dude I talked to said he has a Mustang Dyno, should I be looking for a _________ Dyno instead?

Would be interesting to see your dyno. You don't have to do anything afaik. Just don't forget to turn off A/C. Mustang dyno might show a bit lower output - but it's up to you. I personally would go for Dynojet, not because it shows a bit more, but only because it seems everyone is posting their Dynojet numbers, even tuners have mainly Dynojet values on their websites. So just to be able to compare easily your output and others. But it's up to you of course.

Awesome, thanks! I think I'd prefer to go that route. More to come.

Depending on your mileage probably some fresh plugs wouldn’t hurt plus your installing a tune so that puts more demand on the ignition. Where are you going to dyno at up near Rhode Island? Are you going to Dynotech tuning in Seekonk,
Mass?

I talked to Dynotech yesterday and they have the Mustang Dyno. I'm going to shop around for a Dynojet location...

Doesn't it take quite a few miles for the new tune to really acclimate? If so, make sure you drive it a few days before the dyno.

Personally, I would go to a mustang dyno over all others. Typically it's a more accurate depiction of a vehicle on a road. Dynojets give higher numbers which is why you see the tuners advertise those, bigger number equals more sales.

And you can't really compare dyno results to others that have been on a different dynos. Each dyno will be different. If you check around you'll see that some have good reps and some are heartbreakers. Most dyno ops will give you their drivetrain loss estimate. From there, you can calculate the delta from stock.

If you plan to dyno a lot, get a stock run done first, then you'll always have something to compare too.

It's far more important to get a baseline dyno followed by a post-tune dyno on the same machine. Choosing which machine (Dynojet or Mustang) is less important. This is the mistake almost everyone makes, and it's the reason we have so little info on how much power these tunes actually make.

Without a baseline, your after-tune dyno numbers are completely useless. All your going to get are bragging rights, so you might as well find a Dynojet and get the higher numbers.

If you happen to use Brian at dynotech in Seekonk, he has my 2016 50i files, so at least there is a baseline 50i to compare it to and you'll be using the same dyno I did. Be prepared for lower numbers on his dyno. It generally reads about 14% lower than a Dynojet.

Some things to remember for the dyno run:
PDC off
Sport +
Transmission in Sport Shift mode
DSC off (hold the button)
Accelerate and manually shift into 5th gear

Also, make sure the operator is aware of the step-down button on the accelerator. Many a dyno runs are ruined by this, he can get a feel for it with the engine off.

If you have an M Sport and use Sport+, Sport Shift and manually select the gear, the transmission will not kick down. That is why I suggested it above.

Oh nice! That's good to know, I've yet to try that yet.
