I was a little disappointed by the 2016 DOT code too, but really it's only entering the second winter season. I'm more pissed that all four of my roundel center caps appear to have yellowed. Hopefully I don't need to be at the dealer anytime soon, but if I do, I may ask for replacements. How are yours?

Good thoughts. I did, however, make sure the wheels were installed on proper corners. Dealer actually checked that when I went in for one new wheel lug nut and proper air filling.
I did not notice any wheel cap discoloring. As the tires were in my house just before installation I just so happened to notice what I thought was a slight bulge in the middle of one tread of one tire. I thought it was an illusion and ignored it but maybe it wasn't...and I shouldn't have. |

Found the problem. All corners properly mounted. Located a defective brand new Pirelli tire. Very annoying that is what I was provided as I sure as hell paid a premium for a premium set. Posted in a different thread. I noticed a slight deformation before putting in but thought that could not be...thought it was an illusion.

I called BMW tire service and Tyre Rack Customer service, they really don’t recommend 21 inch winter tires cause they said the side wall is not enough sitting on the wheels, every time you hit a pothole you are prone to tire damage and rims bend.. They said either go for 20 or 19 inch recommended for a better performance on winter time especially driving more than 5000 lbs beast.

I am fine keeping my car looking fresh on the 21s for 360 days a year and keeping it in the garage on the 4 days a year it's too severe to drive anyways!! lol |

21” are fine w/blue earths unless you plan to drive in snow storms frequently and or hit the ski mountains often. Just drove through about 5” of snow last week with the f85 no problems. I run 35 psi cold all round and as long as I am careful it is ok. Snow tires have fatter carcass anyway. They also look awesome from the rear.

Up here in CT, the frost heaves and brutal potholes would likely wreak havoc on 21 wheels. IMO.
Would bang up our Escalade 22s all the time. That gets very expensive and inconvenient. The 20 bmw winter package is definitely a bit bouncy compared to the summer shoed 21s, but I can simply put in sport mode more often and enjoy the winter driving safety it will afford. |

Just put the 21" Blue Earth on the stock rims size 275 square. Easy and cheapest way out. Not sure they have the same traction as the Bridgestone Blizzak tires I used to have on my Cayenne but they are close enough! It is definitely worth considering as you absolutely need a snow tire if you get any snow (I live in CT)

Does anyone in the southeast bother with snow tires? Here in Atlanta, it snows 1-3 inches at most and still shuts the whole city down.
