"Matchbox car" look of 19" black alloy wheels
Okay - this has been bugging me for a bit, haven't seen any discussion yet.
The dark alloy (black/silver) 19" wheels give me the impression (especially at first glance) of the car being a large Matchbox toy car... does anyone else feel this way? This is one big reason why I just can't seem to like them... and I'll admit I've played with many Matchbox toy cars when I was a kid.... but don't want that look in my daily driver in my middle age!! What say you? |

I don't favor the black, which is why I got the silver. It's amazing how many people have asked me why I didn't get the black ones

I never quite understand why the black wheels are so popular for this same reason... I think they look cheaper. But I guess that's why they have two options because it appears we are in a serious minority... (And I will say in person when clean they look much better than in pics)

I personally like the look of both wheels. I did go with the silver wheels because I really like the look of the wheel design and in the black / grey it makes the wheels very muted and you can't really see the design as well. In silver they really pop, and it actually makes the wheels look larger imo. I do plan on getting the darker wheels if I decide to do CF lip, skirts, and diffuser at some point down the road.

I understand and agree with the comments of the ugly trend of flat "paper" wheels. However, in any color, the 437Ms are not flat and paper looking. They are one of the best factory M3 wheels to date.

I cannot count how many times I went back and forth between the black and silver wheels when speccing out my car. When I saw pictures, I favoured the silver ones. However, every time I saw the black ones in real life I was . And that is what settled it for me, real life trumps pictures.
That being said, both look stunning. The silver are more classy and elegant while the black are menacing and sporty. Note that the "shiny" portion on the black wheels is not actual chrome, but rather a "black chrome". So they don't have that "paper" look described above.

I get all the comments... sure they aren't "flat", there is depth, and looking at them from a very close distance with good direct light, I can appreciate and like the sculpted edges and contrast of the dark 19" wheels....
But it simply can't change the first impression I get every time I see them - whether in photos or in person... and since first impressions are hard to change... I won't get them. The standard (in U.S. at least) 18" wheels have really grown on me more and more... |

I agree, it simply is the polished aluminum from the wheel forging with a tinted clear coat applied.

I know that this is an old thread. I got here by searching on the 437M wheels. I have the F82 with the 437M in black and the CCB's and I too have to admit that when I saw the wheels on pictures I was like meh but holy crap these are sweet IRL.

I'm happy I chose them. They really are sick in real life. I get SO many compliments for the black wheel choice as well.

I agree I love the 437m in two tone. Best standard M wheel I have seen. If they had a more aggressive offset I wouldnt have ever gone aftermarket.

Well not if you have a dark colored car like me. All black wheels just blend in... I originally ordered my aftermarket wheels in black and switched up to a tinted brushed after a couple weeks. Just had no contrast. All subjective tho of course.

Yeah well if your car would be black then that's why the silver wheels option is there, no?
