As I was not able to find a used license I purchased a new one yesterday with only outcome today to get to know that my 2016 X5 needs a bench unlock. Not willing to pay $300 or take DMEs off and mail for onsite unlock somewhere so selling a license.

Sorry to hear that dude. In such cases you should get a refund as when you purchase I believe your VIN should verify to them whether they can do it through OBD or not.

Interested, but I also have a 2016. How did you find out it was locked? Could you have found out beforehand or did you find when you tried to tune it?

The dealer who sold me this does not want to process refund. PTF says if I buy from them they would gladly help.
and they offered me if I resell a license they will make it a new, means a buyer will be able to resell it as well later.
So I am selling a brand new license for $800 now. No taxes.

Not sure how to check, try to google it. I have 2014 650 and it did not this problem. I was thinking it is a common problem for 2020 and newer.

A new one $895 + tax. If you resell it later you lose $300+ as minimum.
A used one $500-600. And you can't resell it.

With mine your loss will be $100-150 after you resell.
