BMW Crumple Zones the Real Deal

18 yo son fine. Beautiful Estoril Blue 328i not so much. Not a scratch on driver or passenger. Will likely not let him drive the Beast for a long, long while.

Yeah my e90 saved my life. Bags went off and it dialed emergency services for me. By the time I had figured out what was going on cops already arrived on scene. I'm guessing he was careless but kids are dumb they'll learn. Most importantly the car did its job. Sorry to see your car in such shape, I'm well aware of the feeling.

Some time ago, our family friend had a terrifying accident in an older X5 vehicle. Shaken but OK. The car was totaled.

So glad your son is OK. The car can be easily replaced.

I'm glad no one was hurt, safety features obviously did a good job. My son in a Honda Accord got slammed drivers side by a big Lincoln Continental crumple zone crumpled air bags deployed no injury at all. The driver in Lincoln was doing about 45 mph.

I don't have the speed answer. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts. He's very lucky...now I can kill him myself.....

Glad he's OK. I don't think you need to kill him. I have a feeling that accident taught him a life lesson. Whatever he was doing, he won't do again.

A friend of a friend was driving an E53 on a twisty in NC a while back. Coming around a curve, an oncoming car came into his lane and had a head on. E53 was totaled but occupants were fine. Other driver died. Our cars are safe.

Holy shit a head on is scary. We have so many twisty and narrow roads here in CT it is terrifying at times!
