extended warranty for 2016 X5

I have a 2016 X5. The factory warranty is going to expire in Nov. this year. Currently it has ~20k miles. I drive around 5000 miles a year. Would you suggest to buy an extended warranty? If yes, what kind warranty should I buy? Thanks

Not if you’re driving that small number of miles.
Park $500 a year into an interest bearing account to be used to cover what may come up down the road, this is in addition to regular scheduled maintenance costs after initial “free” maintenance coverage ends.

Just search, lots of threads here. Most people just bail and save the money for the repairs.

I purchased a 8 year/100k additional for 5k . Cheap piece of mind, provides increased value when selling, or can get prorated refund.

I think this is the way to go and is exactly what I plan to do when my 2016 X5 warranty expires in June 2020.

FWIW, I'm with this guy. I'm in the same boat with one that expires Nov of this year. I'll definitely be going with an extended. Shop around though as well as look at third party providers.

Canada is a whole different beast when it comes to breakdowns on BMW's. Very expensive to have repairs done on these cars. Warranties are definitely a good investment.

I’m looking to purchase a 2016 X5, but haven’t been able to find cost for extended warranties without completing lengthy forms with all your contact info.

Does anyone know the cost and additional mileage/# of months that Bmw offers?

You have 3 levels of extended warranty from BMW
Platinum, Gold and Powertrain in that order with Plat being the highest coverage that covers most repairs.
Then you have up to 5,6,7 year extensions with 75,000 or 100,000 miles. I went for the 7year/75,000 Plat coverage for about 4800$ from a dealer located in california they seemed to have the best price after talking to 10-15 other dealers funny thing is my local dealer in NY had the highest price which was at 6100$ for the same plan. Doesn't matter where you purchase the warranty from as long as it's from a BMW dealer your good. Warranty follows the car so if you end up selling it would move onto the next owner or you could ask for a pro rated refund which they calculate by length and miles the car was used during the extended program.
Now if you purchase a CPO bmw you would already have the extra year of warranty which is equivalent to the gold package so max years you would be able to add is 2 more years. If you purchase the extra 2 years of warranty with plat coverage per say the one year of gold coverage automatically changes to plat so basically you would have 3 years of plat with unlimited miles. Yeah when I heard unlimited I was like what but apparently thats how it works with extending an already cpo'd vehicle.

I'm confused, how the 4 year factory warranty for 2016 car can expire in 2019? You took a delivery in Nov 2015?

Askin Because I bought an used 2016 X5 and my BMW warranty goes until August 2020.

Just because it's a 16` model doesnt mean it was bought in 2016 it could have been purchased mid to late 2015 as a newer '16 model or in your case your 16' could have been at the dealer much longer and bought late 2016. I was as confused as you lol but recently someone mentioned if the car is bought new from the dealer warranty starts once purchased.

Thank you. That’s strange about the discrepancy in price. It seems that the dealers have discretion in pricing the warranties just like they do in pricing the vehicles.

I live in Miami and plan to purchase after the hurricane. I also am considering purchasing from California as I’ve noticed a dealer there has a very large selection of used bmw’s. I think it’s called California Beemers.

Warranty

My warranty expires in a few weeks - so I have shopped warranties a bit. It seems like the cost of the BMW extended warranty is so high that BMW either assumes/underwrites for a lot of expensive repairs by 75k miles or they want people to just trade in for a new car. $5000 or so for 24 months of extended coverage feels like self-insuring with that cash in the bank may make more sense. I too value piece of mind - to a point tho. This seems crazy expensive. When I bought the X5 - the sales staff told me just how reliable and high quality the X5 is - same dealership now tells me I need the $5500 extended warranty because the car is likely to see big $$ repairs soon (I am at 46k miles) . Not good.

One thing I dont like about the brand is this major $$ risk of owning for a year or two out of warranty. I know same for Audi and Merc - but Japanese brands run forever with a much smaller risk to owner.

Hi, i'm in the same boat, looking for extended warranty. My X5 2016 expires in Oct, 2019

So far I've quoted for Easycare with 250 and 500 deductible for another 36 months 60k or 75k but still research on other option.

I think it is expensive.
Here the price I got for totalcare
24 months/75k 4343 - 100 deductible
36 months/75k 5386 - 100 deductible

24 months/75k 3728- 250 deductible
36 months/75k 4469- 250 deductible

I got number all the way up to 100k if you like.

I just got the bmw number back from some with a major discount on the BMW official care Platinum

72 months/75k miles $4299
84 months/75k miles $4879

I think currently bmw is a better deal for the 84 months

I have 2016 x5 xDrive40E with 34K miles and have another year of Factory coverage. I have just started looking at extended warranty coverage and not finding anything closer to what your quote is? Can you share the contact and quote details?

hey Yashuneel, are you looking for aftermarket or bmw own extended warranty?
I've been researching for the longest time and I found out every dealership have a different quote for BMW extended warranty. I'm in NYC and they totally rip you off but from my research, I knew the reasonable price would be to get platinum would be between 4500 to 5k and anything more is a rip-off. If you looking for a contact for the bmw extended warranty, I will get you that info ONCE I get the contract for it since they said I need a key reading to get the contract. I'm doing the key reading on Sept 26 as I'm bringing in my car for maintenance so I want to make sure the quote is legit. The dealership is in CA and she very responsive so I have no reason to believe she lying to me but just want it to be official. Stay tune..

Agreed with 201
That's right, Christine has the best price but nothing official until I get the contract.
