From Porsche back to a BMW

Woo I'm back!
After a much longer than expected hiatus from BMW's, I was finally able to get back into one that I think is perfect for my current place in life. I used to have an E92 335i and was extremely active on the forum over a decade ago but then life/work just got busy. Until now.
I just traded in my '13 Cayenne GTS (best exhaust i've ever had) for an '18 X5M in Donington Grey with the Mugello Red interior. This car is primarily for my wife but in the last 5 days, she hasn't driven it once! I can't let the keys go!
Gonna spend a few days doing some research but will start modding immediately. I also forgot how to code so will need to spend some time educating myself.

Nice! Thinking about doing the same with my 2014 Cayenne Turbo S. Would love to hear your thoughts on how the switch is going!

There have been some differences but overall I would go back and do it again.

I do miss the exhaust sound of the GTS (Fabspeed). The BMW is much more muted for now. The technology upgrade has been phenomenal. Took a little while getting used to the turbo-lag on the X5M but overall it's a much faster car. GTS handled better in the curves. X5M backseat is bigger and fits 3 car seats easier.

LOL...3 car seat problem, that's why I went with the X5M.

Yeah every time I hear a GTS start up it pisses me off that the X5M exhaust is so muted. That is why I have decided I'll be getting an exhaust from Redstar later on this new year.

Also get a stage one tune you'll love it even more. It drives so much better.

Think we must have different exhausts here in Europe? Mine starts with a lovely loud shouty bark, wakes my folks up anyways 😂

My car IS euro spec and all of them are the same US or EURO etc in terms of the exhaust sound. It does sound nice on cold Start but that's it. Nothing like the GTS on cold start and driving exhaust sound. Gotta order that new exhaust as soon as possible.

To the OP congrats. My X5M is the same exact spec.

I had a 16 Cayenne Turbo S. I think the 14 was before the refresh. There are really only two things I miss about the Cayenne Turbo S - the brakes and the steering on the highway.

The ceramics on the Cayenne were far, far superior to the X5M brakes. They hauled the car down from speed without upsetting the truck or getting squishy. Had confidence flying on the highway because I knew that even if someone changed into my lane and didn't correctly judge my speed, I could haul the truck down easily.

And you could steer the truck on highway curves with one finger and it held the line faithfully. X5M requires adjustment and there is never that sense of knowing exactly what the front tires are doing.

Other nice part of the Cayenne was the ability to lower the truck to let my older relatives in.

But beyond those two driving issues, I have found the X5M to be more enjoyable, the engine more potent at low RPM's and easier to live with. It has better visibility, more room, and sounds better.

If your 14 Cayenne Turbo doesn't have ceramics, then you obviously won't miss them.

Loved the exhaust note on my RRS at start-up. I found it superior and more pleasing than the X5M, but overall still prefer and love the X5M.
