What does this button do?

2016 X6... Nothing in the manual about the little button under the auto climate control button. What is it and what does it do?... Thanks!

It's not a button but a cabin temperature sensor.

That's originally what I thought. The manual shows vents under the auto button, not a button that can be pushed.

Which Owners manual do you have? I think the previous model E70 had the small vents which was used to measure cabin temperature.

I have both the paper and on-line manuals for the 2016 X6, and neither one shows the button.

I'm going to contact BMW Technical Assistance.

Thank you!

It's not a button, you can't push it or anything - why would a manual show it?

I have the same sensor and on page 161 of the manual for the 2014 F15 X5 it doesn't even show it in the picture, let alone mention it.

On mine, pressing it deploys or retracts a Canadian flag in the shark fin antenna.

As mentioned repeatedly...it is the IHKA temp sensor that regulates the temp that is set on the panel.

BMW changed the design around 7/2012 from the forced air ventilation design (where cabin air is sucked into the IHKA over a sensor/thermistor) to this style that you have that looks like a little button.

Some reasons for the change from the forced air design to the button temp sensor was the complaints over the decades of noise that the little fan would begin to make as dust accumulated and stuck to the little fan inside.

Again...it ACTUALLY IS a temp sensor. But still feel free to ask your local dealership...who may not even know what it is, either.

See #17 in the illustration below from the BMW TIS...as well as the functional description of the interior temp sensor...again from the TIS website:

I don't get it. Can you actually push this "button?" You can't, so it's NOT a button.

It's a busy-body detector. Press it more than twice in any 60-second period, and it sends an alert to Munich to the effect of "We better keep a close eye on this one." Only in German, it sounds much more sinister.

I’ve tried it and got the same result + “O Canada” in both English and French!

Thank you, bud, I’ll rise a mug of maple syrup to you!
