Yes, I've had similar glitches in my F16 and F15, it always corrects itself on the following start up.

Only thing I've recently had is that the bottom half of the dashboard (the digital piece) won't turn on. HUD, however, has always worked.

I've never had any issues with HUD so far either, but as mentioned above bottom half of the LCD went blank, my idrive went blank and after the car went to sleep after shut down it all came back up again. I guess just like our smartphones the car needs to shut down and sleep to reset all the digital features.

This happened to me also. Left work one day and about half way home noticed the heads up display wasn't working. I played around and double checked the settings once I got home but no luck. I even checked on it later in the day and it still wasn't working, and was planning on setting up an appt to get it checked out. Then the next day it was working again and hasn't happened since.

Bottom part of dash has gone out a few times too but comes back on next start.
HUD has always worked.
Other than replacing the steering column all is well.

Happened twice in 3 years of ownership so far. Came back on at the next startup both times.

New owner of an ‘18. Anyone take in their car to the dealer to fix? Or simply watch it reset after next startup?

I just got my F16 in August and did a road trip. I thought I noticed the HUD glitch along the way but was 2nd guessing myself. After "paying mind" to it, I noticed that it was indeed "glitching." Haven't had a chance yet but do plan on running it through BMW Service and having them do a diagnostic to see if they can find the issue.

My 2018 did this every couple of months. No way to fix it other than to shut the car off and restart it. Dealer has no idea how to fix it and I can’t duplicate it. Other F15s I have owned did not have the problem.

My iDrive gets no signal sometimes, but it restarts itself and fixes the issue.

I've been having glitches and finally took it in after having it 3 1/2 months.

They ran 3 tests: first one came back as no fault on the machine. The service mgr asked the tech to check again as the customer can't be going crazy over what he saw.

Tech checked again, it came back with a full readout of everything checking okay except that time, some temperature issue but not pin-pointed; gave instruction to reset.

Final time: Tech checked again, came back as faulty, temperature issue- system-directed to replace the unit.. phew, thank goodness for rechecking.. goes in, in two days for a new replaced unit.

Careful with the fit and finish post replacement. I had a faulty HUD replaced years ago on a 550. They had to pull the dash out down to the consol. When I got the car back there were several misalignments and some damage.

My advice is that you notify them that you've been warned of this and you'll not tolerate such. This will at least encourage them to be careful.

Yeah, my 2018 X5 here in the UK has done it 4 times since March but always resets itself on the next start up. No major biggie but it does make you realise how much you rely on the digital speedo on the HUD.

I personally blame the shoddy US manufacturing.....

2014 3.5x w/most options: the center console- heat & radio was 'dead' for about 1/2 mile on startup. I started switching stuff on and off- lights, wipers, anything- and it corrected itself without needing to restart. Has not happened since. No other 'glitches' noticed.

HUD glitch

HUD would not come on for me just last night. Looked it up and it brought me to this thread.

Drove home without HUD. Stopped the car for about 5 minutes. Started car and HUD came back.

Not sure if just coincidence or what, but all these little things happened AFTER my seat repair.

Brought my MY16 X3 in for a driver seat ripped leather repair (just above the hard plastic seat controls)
-Seat repaired.
-Picked up car and as I got in, I see an "air bag malfunction" message.
-Had to leave the car overnight again since technicians were all gone.
-Told me my 3yr old car's battery is dying and needs replacing; and that was what was causing the message, a dying battery.
-Sucked it up and told them to replace the battery.
-A week later, reversing out of my driveway I get a "reverse light malfunction" message. Drove to my destination. Parked. Checked vehicle info...message still there. Did my errands. Came home; no message; checked info, nothing. Had the wife video me reversing, all good.
-Now, the HUD glitch.

I also remember another time my HUD was working, but the navigation info wouldn't show up. After an engine off and on, everything came back.

Sorry to hear of all your issues. Hope it all works out. Glad you resurrected this thread. I had the same issue a couple of weeks again with our 2016 X6 50i. We just bought the car and it's still under warranty, so we took it in for service. Dealer said they found the fault in the control unit. They had to replace it. The entire dashboard had to come out. It all working again now. Hoping the glitch does not come back.

Glitches seem to be common in the F16. I got mine in Aug of '18 and noticed it glitching. I thought I was seeing things and was just tired and fatigued. After I paid close attention, there was indeed a glitch. Took it to the dealer and after 3 separate diag's ran on it, it showed a fault somewhere within the system. They installed a new unit and haven't had any issues since.

Figured it out maybe ?

So this same thing happened to me 3 times in last 3 months, first 2 times it came back after couple hours once car was turned off and on, but this third time, it happened 3 days ago, and it still hasn't came back, so i went into details to try to figure it out. I came to realization that it actually never "disappeared" , but there is a glitch where hud was pushed way down(repositioned), so i go into the setting to adjust the position of hud, and raise it up to the "max" , but still it was way too low, literally could only see half of numbers showing the speedometer, when playing music i could see previous/next options as well. Now the main concer is why did this happen ? why did my hud randomly got pushed all the way down without abillity to bring it back up to normal hight where it was and worked perfectly, right now the highest hight setting is still way too low where i can barely see half of numbers, and i'm 6'5", even tried to reset the car to factory defaults( options-->delete all user data) and that didn't fix it, it is still there but way too low, so for people shorter then 6' it will look like that it's not working at all, but it actually is working, it's just super low, so far i have no idea how could this be fixed ?
