Trade or not
Dealer asked me to trade my 2016 X5M for 2018 X6M . Price is close but I have PPF on full vehicle and some carbon on my X5M
Would you trade yours for the new ? |

With the new X5M and X6M due over the next year or so it would probably be a bad idea, not to mention it's the same vehicle with a different body shell. Unless you really want a sloped rear and poorer rear visibility I wouldn't especially if you've invested money in your X5M.

There’s only one reason a dealer would suggest this, and it aint to do you a favor...

I'll stay with the X5M. Exept if they want to give to you the next generation of X6M for the same "close" price !

I had the F86 and I now own a F85. No regrets!

Also, the new x6M won't be out for at least two years or longer. We haven't even seen the regular x6. I would consider trading if you want a newer car and it doesn't cost you anything extra. But I suspect the dealer would not be reaching out of this were the case

Your timeline is completely off though. The all new 2020 X6 is due later this year, the new X5M around the same time, and you can mark it in your calendar the X6M will be a year later. So we’re talking 18 months, hence why the incentives are so good currently on X6 and X6M. I would only consider leasing currently due to those factors. |

I’d think about it for a lease (with a healthy discount on top of the current strong incentives) but you’d be crazy to buy anything that you know is being replaced in the near future. The depreciation will be terrible, just look at what’s happened to the X5Ms in the 6+ months since the new X5 was released and it’ll get worse when the new X5M is out in a few months.
Not to mention it’s just for an updated iDrive system and a different body shell. |

What's the advantage for you to trade? Outside of a newer car and price being "close" are there any solid advantages for you? Your car is only ~3 years old and under warranty still, another year you'll have your choice of the next gen X5M or current model X6M (for a better price).
