New owner hello
Hello all-visiting from 1 series forum E82 [128 for 12 yrs now] and 3 series E91 [06 330xiT 6MT] imported from Germany.
Taking delivery of a 2017 X5 tomorrow. It'll have the n55 engine and I know nothing about turbo engines. I believe turbos have a "charge pipe" made of plastic and many here replace it with a metal aftermarket one. Do I have this right? And, if so, where should I buy one? This will make 5 cars now and the Toyota will have to go and unfortunately the 06 330 too. Unfortunately I don't think it can be imported into USA so it'll most likely be sold here in Canada. |

Well Congratulate! Having owned 6 BMW’s with the N55, N20, B48, and B58 All being Modern and Turbocharged they all were Amazing. Modern Turbocharged Engines are Reliable, Efficient, and FAST. Having owend 3 N55 Vehicles both EWG and PWG They all threw me 0 Issues. When it comes to reliability, The N55 EWG is a pretty reliable Motor I’ve seen them go up to 300k+ Miles with Preventable Maintenance. Being a BMW You will expect to see Oil Leaks and stuff of that Nature like any German Vehicle really. The Chargepipe is made from Plastic and does Crack if you add Power and Boost but if not it will not crack. If you want to learn about the N55 Specifically Please Watch this Video attached: https://youtu.be/rPUUNhjJjHU Cheers Man! Hope you enjoy the Car.
