Rear view mirror upgrade

Hi all,

My rear view mirror is missing Homelink so I wanted to upgrade to one with the three buttons included. Got hold of a mirror off ebay and hoped it would be a simple plug'n play operation. However, after installing I have several error codes, one stating incorrect mirror installed.

Is there a way around this, is it possible to retrofit a homelink mirror?

Cheers,
Sean

Did you shop using the correct part nbr(s) for you F96 based on its VIN & options?

For example, if I look up the interior mirrors for the F96 X6M...it shows item #1 & item #3 in the diagram below as having the HOMELINK buttons.

That gives the option of two compatible (current) part nbrs (and click the links below to see other older compatible part nbrs):

My original part number is 9256138-04(taken off the mirror), which seems to be 51169274267 Realoem.
The part number from the one I bought is 9274270-01.

I honestly didn't check this very thoroughly before buying, I assumed they were basically interchangeable. I saw that the one I bought had the three homelink buttons and the alarm LED below and figured that was OK. In Realoem there were so many variations I found it hard to understand which one I actually had.
