F15 xdrive30d making noises after repair

not good with cars, but i'll try to explain:

my f15 had an issue which made it completely useless for driving for 5 months. the mechanic was searching for the right part to get it to work again. i think it was something about the front driveshaft. after it was repaired, it always made a scratching noise.

i saw the undercarriage of the car, and it looks similar to this:

we started the engine and took a look underneath, and i could see something rotating. i guess some sort of cover is missing there now judging when the failure happened, i saw a black cover shredded to bits.this is also where the is noise coming from.

the mechanic said that the noise is probably happening due to the missing cover which insulates sound.

the noise happens in P, D, N, and R, but is most noticeable when in N and when driving.

i have also made a video:

you should be able to hear some sort of the friction/scratch sound.

What exactly is that?

"Drives: BMW X5" - what year. model ?

What's the mileage and service history?

Firstly, why wouldn't you take it back to the place that did the "repair"?

The image shows the transfer case.

The video isn't very informative, but could indicate the transfer case has failed.

Sorry just seeing this post now.

It’s a 2015 xdrive30d. With around 97k KM.

I got it checked from a mechanic and he said the noise is coming from the flywheel. The pic i showed with the transfer case isnt the issue.

I’m not sure why the flywheel is making noise. Every part including the flywheel and then going back towards the car till the transmission ends was replaced from a total loss f15’s.
It seems to me that the flywheel is either going bad or wasn’t properly installed.

Why would you doubt that mechanic?

Why not take it back to whoever did the install?

I doubt the mechanic that I installed it from because he said that the noise is normal, even though the car used to be much more silent without the scratching noise coming from the flywheel. So I took a second opinion from another mechanic. I told the mechanic who installed the flywheel about this issue, he said to bring the car back.

TBH my dad is not very keen about it because last time it went for repair it took 4 months. I told him that he can either get it fixed now or wait until something worse happens.

Update

The noise came from the flywheel being really old. A new one was installed and the noise is gone.

A flywheel is just a steel plate. How does being old make it bad? Unless it was cracked??
