Makes sense! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

OK, just picked her up and had a moment to stop at home before heading back to the office. All I can say is just "wow". More thoughts and pics to come.

For now, teaser w/ quad tips. $330 installed at my shop.

This SAV sounds the way it was supposed to sound. Changes the whole experience.

Ok so I will try to give a bit of review but I won't go as detailed as the others since my feedback will be mostly the same. For context I came from a 335i with Remus quad exhaust and had a Corsa straight pipe on it before that.

I have driven with it for a few days now and it continues to impress. I always thought the 50i was a little muted although it had a nice sound for a premium SAV. Most would agree, however, that it does not sound like it looks.

Value for this mod is a solid 10 in my opinion. I paid $330 out the door and used tips that my shop had a huge assortment of and probably similar to what you can find online/ebay/china. By far the cheapest exhaust mod you can do for what you get.

My take on the sound is this, it is louder but not overly crazy like a straight pipe Mustang. Probably on par with a 350GT or SVR. I was afraid it might be too loud but it strikes a good balance. Going slower you don't notice too much but then as you step in, get gets deeper and throaty....I like that.

Here is the kicker, my wife has said nothing or noticed for over four days. I am betting on when she might actually figure out something is up. My guess is when she rides in it for the first time but we will see.

Sport modes shift are distinct, really like that sound. Love the deceleration sound coming to a stop or light...the right amount of pops and backfires....Means business for sure. Nothing louder than what I would want.

Driving wise, it really makes you rethink your truck. The exhaust note helps it take on a more "performance" oriented demeanor. This is not the mod for someone who thinks of his BMW like a Lexus that should be quiet and refined but more for the guy who would also buy a F-Type R, Z06, SVR, 350GT.....A car that sounds like it looks.

So there is my slightly different take. Very satisfied! Now I just need the OBD2 flash tunes and this thing is straight up nonsense.

Anyone had success completing this Mod in NY Tri-State? I’d like to know the shop.

Can you take a pic of the piping now without the muffler?

Did you have the shop fabricate the exhaust hanger to mount the straight pipes onto the muffler's hanger?

Ok here are some detailed pics of the install.

I love it more each day. Wife still hasn't noticed yet Shout out to LastDetailNV for having the nerve to go down this road for us.

Edit. So w had some errands and a trip to Costco. She never even noticed. I kept my foot mostly out of it anyway but not even a suggestion that something was different. A stealthy spouse install is successful

Last pic immediately after the resonator and cat. There is a spot for it where the pipes come together before coming apart again.

Cold start sound clip for those wondering or still on the fence. Start up is loud as expected but when it drops, it is barely audible except for a real low rumble.

Sounds good. The question is. If you put the car in Eco pro mode, do you get drone from low rpms going up hills? I was thinking of just having exhaust cutouts installed in order to still have quiet when desired.

Gosh I wouldn't know. People use ECO mode?
I'm never going slow enough for ECO mode to work, even on the freeway.

I am sure you could modify the install to fit your liking. I can say I have gotten used to the sound already. I swear it is getting quieter but I know that is just me. It is pretty deep if you are in low RPM in comfort since it changes gears sooner and keeps you well down in the range.

Yeah I didn't want to catch the attention of the spouse. There are several videos earlier in the thread of runs and revs. Doesn't sound any different. Mine was mostly for those interested in a quad tip install.

The shop I went to had a whole shelf of various types of tips. I saw matte black, black chrome, quad, single...you name it. I think they also had silver with carbon inlays.

My goal was to appear stock. Plus, I think chrome just adds to the overall contrast and ability to tell they are even there. The pipe was actually 3in pipe they had in the shop. Being metric, BMW uses something like 2 7/8 thus the step up you can see in the pic. This was why I wasn't too concerned with non-mandrel bent piping potentially being restrictive. I figured by the time you added some additional pipe diameter and removed the exhaust, any difference should be negligible.
