MPE questions
I'm already committed to having MPPK installed, found a dealer to do it I'm all set. I'm thinking about having MPE installed at the same time since the MPPK install takes hours to complete e.g. they may as well install the MPE while they wait for the download.
The thing is I can't find any info on why the stock exhaust goes to such lengths to only blow out of the left pipe when cold. Emissions? Power? I saw a few posts where guys felt they lost bottom end after the MPE install which sounds counter productive. I don't think BMW would go to the expense of valving the exhaust without good reason. So does anyone know definitively why they valve the stock exhaust and what effect MPE will have? In fact one of my frustrations with my X5 is the lack of any detailed information on the vehicle and its systems. I'm tempted to buy a service/repair manual. |

Coolidge,
I don't think it's a specific design issue of the F15. My F30 has the valve too as do most, if not all, other models. Check out this link. Seems to be related to noise reduction, to aid in catalytic converter operation/emissions, or a combination of the two. http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814739
