Nope. I test drove one (Carrera S) back-to-back-to-back with a 981 Cayman S and a 718. I bought the 718 ... and the 991.1 was a distant third.

That said, YMWV -- and the 991 is a very different car than even its predecessor. Drive as many as you can!

718 - did it sound like a WRX?

Not really. Does a Subaru sound like a 356?

I'm shocked anyone would buy a 718 over a 991.1. My '13 C2S is in for new tires and routine care and I have a 718 Boxster S loaner. It's fast, but sounds terrible compared to my car and my old 981 Cayman S. I'd rank them 991.1 then 981, then 718.

You mean does it. mmmmGet your tense right.

Now, to answer your question:
mmmDunno -- Does your Quattro sound like a Jetta?
I've owned a WRX. My car sounds nothing like it beyond the cars sharing, you know, the same engine layout and firing order and all ...

Think of it this way: If sound were everything, why has Nickelback sold umpteen million albums?

Because people have no taste. You won't be doing yourself any favors by comparing your 718 to Nickelback

WRXs sounded like they did for so many years due to unequal length headers, not so much being a boxer. I had a borla "aggressive" exhaust on mine and it was interesting, very low growl/rumble, not like the high pitched WRXs you hear. I believe (but may be wrong) that the new ones do now have equal length headers.

I never said it was a bad thing.
I like the subaru flat 4 sound, when it's just there and understated.

in terms of tense, I was referencing the test drive in which the decision to purchase the 718 was made; in that context, it was in the past.

I am looking at a 981 at the moment, as I cant afford the 718, but the Porsche dealer did say to me that I can drive any car they have available to test. So I might take their new 718 for a spin, because I now want to hear it in person.

Maybe you should reconsider the P car

A 2010-2013 Corvette Grand Sport can be had for less than 40 grand

Not in Australia, if you could buy them there they'd be well over 100K.

Everyone underestimates how cashed up Australia is.

Things might cost more, but then again, they probably make more as well. I know for a guy who went to work in Australia for a few years, came back to the US and bought a $1M house cash.

It was for me. Now I just get a new SUV every year instead of a new SUV and a new weekend car every year. I got very lucky though. I bought a 2012.5 in June of 2014 when values were at their worst, people will still butt hurt about the loss of the 997.. The newest 991.1 S you can find now is at least $20k more than I paid for mine in 6/2014.

As much as I love the Cayman, I still prefer the feel of a 911. I just sold a friend a 718 Cayman GTS. It's brilliant, but again, I still prefer a 911.

We don't at the professional level.

Lower paid people like check out chicks or basic labour are paid far more than the US but a lawyer or a doctor or a Marketing director ... same $$$.

In other words, your expenses are comparable to NYC, but your pay is comparable to Philly.

Exactly.

What we don't pay for directly though is healthcare (for the most part), retirement (compulsory 9% ON TOP of your wage goes to a pension) and education is 30% of a half decent US university. Land taxes are also about a third of the US rate.

Still, a coffee and a muffin is $10.

Just picked up my own 997.2 gt3 (dream car since I laid my eyes on her)

I knew I couldn't buy anything but the GT3 as that's the car I've always wanted. I was going to settle for a turbo or GTS but I knew deep inside what I wanted.

I bought sight unseen and got the car shipped to me. I'm deeply in love with her already and everyday I love her more as I get some valuable seat time behind the wheel and we become more comfortable with each other.

My judgment for paying 110k for a car that's 8 years old was simple. Even though I'm clearly overpaying for what this car is, someone will pay this much again when I want to sell her. It's funny to think about, but when you buy a GT car (excerpt 991.1) - you can practically drive them for free or near free as your car retains or even goes up in value. Crazy!

This is one of the things that got me over the edge on my 993, unless there is a huge market change my 993 should hold it's value or even continue to appreciate. Having said that, I haven't made or lost anything unless or until I sell and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
