What do you mean by "alloygaters"?
Could you please give more details how the work was done?
igorsvrub Essentially 'plastic' strips that are fitted between the tyre and alloy rim of the wheel. They take the hit when you kerb your car instead of damaging the alloy.

They work. I had black ones fitted on both summer and winter alloys. Only trouble is when I had the tracking checked they have to remove 'em. What happened later that week...kerbed the wheels!

Car going back in to have 'em fitted next week!

^^^Interesting idea. Unfortunately for me, my nearest dealership for that is in California, two states away.

My wife's X5 50d arrived in April, replacing an E70 X5 40d.

The 40d was absolutely flawless over 30,000 miles / 3 years.

Anyway on to the 50d. 1,000 miles in experienced the following problems:

1) Dashboard trim incorrectly fitted/aligned

2) Steering wheel / front wheels incorrectly aligned.

Car is going to the dealer next week to fix problem 2).

In regards to problem 1), how many other owners on here have the same problem? I checked 4 other X5's at my dealer the other week and they were all as bad as ours. Dealer is willing to remedy but I'm nervous that having them do so will result in squeaks/rattles/collateral damage etc...in other words I'll regret it. I assume you can't repair this issue without disassembling the entire dashboard!

Both of my issues are down to poor assembly. I've bought lots of bwm's and never had basic issues like this before. Chasing volume and profits at the expense of quality??

I have the same huge gaps in my alu-hex trip. In the past i had alu and other wood trips and there was never a gap so I am not sure what happened.

I just got the car last week so want to know if dealer can actually fix these huge trim gaps...

Sorry to hear that akhter.

It's disappointing that BMW are building these cars with a known defect and deluding themselves that customers won't notice.

I note that the X5 M50d on the BMW stand at the Geneva motor didn't have this defect.

Not good enough BMW.

I have a 50d with same configuration inside (alu hex) and I noticed the gaps from the beginning; it was strange as I had Individual paint and leader and I expected a perfect finishing. Now I feel less critic due to the performances of the car compared with my previous E70 40d. But even if the inside is more elegant than before, the quality of the assembly looks more like Renault made in Turkey style.

2nd key didn't work, should've checked it at the time of vehicle delivery but I slipped up

Had to bring it to the dealership to get coded. Took about 30 mins after being given an initial estimate of 90 mins and got a car wash out of it to boot, I can live with that :-)

the fact that both lights failed and the camera failed at same time, seems like a wiring issue. did they check the ground junction point for the lights?

This is strange to say the least because my wife is the only passenger and she only sits in the car for maybe 10% of journey’s.

Have raised with BMW UK Customer Care..outcome TBA!
I had this once, the seat had absorbed colour and it came from blue jeans, the seat was replaced.

This is common, I always repaint the edge of my rotors as I do the calipers?

Sunroof failure

Hottest day of the year so far in the UK and my panoramic sunroof has failed.

The centre push up button to lift the roof wouldn't respond, nor would trying to slide open the roof. The only button working was close, so now the roof and cover have closed over

Also tried the remote, in case it was a button failure, no joy, open/close all the windows but no roof. So going to have to put a call into the Liverpool BMW dealer and find out how good they are!

20 minutes later c/o the 5 series forum, found this way to re-initialize it which worked for me! http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=826149

Defective internet antenna on delivery

CA was doing the delivery with me this week, and couldn't get the Google searches to work. While I was doing the paperwork, he took it to Service and was told it needs a new antenna (to be ordered..2 weeks) with a full day to reprogram the car. Not a great feeling when you're taking delivery, but I had a similar situation on my 740il a few years ago at delivery. Note the pattern.

Guess I'll wait on getting the car coded until this issue is resolved.

Not on mine. Only 5000km, but all good and early Nov 14 build. On hot days sunroof will not close from vent open position so I fully close including cover and then it is all fine.

Should I get an X5 F15 or a Lexus GX 460? Are these X5 issues really that bad?

I haven't had any major issues with my X5 since I got it...there were a few teething issues at the beginning but since then with almost 20k miles, it's been rock solid. I can't imagine loving a Lexus as much as my BMW.

I had 2 GX470's... Frankly, there is no comparison between the Lexus GX and the BMW X5. Completely different driving experiences. The GX floats down the road while the BMW drives down the road. The GX feels big where the X5 feels more like a large sedan. Reliability is better with Lexus, but I did have issues with both GX's one where the dealer gave up on a solution and I ended up getting rid of the truck because of the issue. (the front seat had a clicking noise coming from the support every time you made a turn. it was loud, and annoying and because I had 64,000 miles on the truck they refused to replace the seat even though I had the extended warranty)

I went the X5 route not only for the driving experience, but I'm averaging 28mpg on the 35d where the best I got on my GX was 19mpg.

You're reading an "issues" thread, not a "typical experiences" thread. Not sure it's fair to characterize the car based on that...

I am not sure but y aluminum Hex trim scratched fairly easy. Its horrible according to the dealer i shouldn't wear a watch or ring.? SMH
Is this a known issue with the Aluminum Hex trim? If i would have known it was that sensitive i would of not gotten the X5 with it.

Hello Everyone...I wanted to share something really strange happened with my car (2015 X5 xDrive35i) yesterday.. I parked my car at work in a open parking lot and locked the door with the keyfob.. after about 20min one of my friend called and told me that my car alarm went off for about 1 min and then it stopped but the hazard lights keep flashing.. I went outside to the parking lot and sure enough all the lights were flashing including the LED (angel eye), turn signals, and rear turn signal lights.. they were all flashing.. when i pressed the unlock button my keyfob, it stopped flashing.. This happened twice but the second time i drove my car around in the parking lot for about a min and then parked it back in the spot.. I monitored my car all day after this incident and didn't see the alarm or flashing going off after i drove around.. I will be taking my car to the BMW service department to have them run diagnostic and hopefully they can provide me with a legit reason as to why this had happened.

Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced anything like this with their car?
