Yeah, I had that too. I loved the sound, just wanted to turn down the volume. Give it some time; I waited a month or so before I pulled the trigger on the swap-in of the Ultra-Quiets.

That's the sound 50i should have had from the factory imho. Hell, that sound is even good for X5M

I'm honestly liking that sound more than some expensive $4-7k aftermarket exhausts.

Has anyone done this in Texas? Only asking to see if it would still pass emissions testing.

Any mods downstream from the cats, like the mods in this thread, will have no effect on the emissions. If you take out the cats, that's another matter.

Will do! Car will be here 18 April, but based on what happens with COVID business closures over here in Western Aus, I may be waiting a bit longer to get the exhaust mods done. Hopefully not though!

I like those tips! They look like they'll work, size-wise. Somewhere in this thread there was a post that gave some important max dimensions for the tips. You might want to hunt that down if you haven't read it already and check the dimensions of those tips you're looking at. Might save you some headache. I think the content of that post is really accurate and valuable; the tips I used were just a little than the max length spec in that post, and my exhaust fab guru had to cut them down a bit to make them work.

Yup - I believe the post was Max 4" tips with 4 mm in between the tips. A for length, 9" was the absolute minimum. These tips tick all the boxes! I also really wanted ones that were staggered so they fit a bit nicer with the contour of the bumper.

Sounds like you're "on this" like a wet muumuu on a chubby Polynesian girl. Carry on.

Just a quick question mate. What length resonators did you put in before the tips? I think hufington mentioned vibrant ultra quiet resonators but no mention of length. I've been convinced to put in the resonators to minimise drone and can find 2.5" in and out in lengths of 9/12/15". Also assuming I need 2.5" in and out. On top of all of that... Mild steel or stainless steel?!

These are the ones I used. And here is Vibrant's spec page for them. They're stainless; I wouldn't bother with mild steel here in Minnesota, 'cause they wouldn't last. Hope that helps!

These are the ones that hufington and I used. They're a little louder if that's what you're looking for.

Thank you! I definitely do want it a little louder. Did you find you had a bit more drone with these than the ultra quiet though?

Also to get shipped to Australia is going to cost an arm and a leg! What do you think of these options?

I have no idea what those would be like. Also I don't really know how the ultra quiet would be compared to the bottle style because I never had them on. All I can say is that the bottle style are less obnoxious than I expected them to be.

Well, the muffler delete might be something the wife approves of all the time. So cut-outs could be a good compromise.

I always wanted to do electric cutouts and pipe the output to the existing tips. That way, open or closed, all exhaust (and noise) exits the tips. Even better would be having them open automatically in sport or sport+! I doubt I'll ever do it, though.

I am thinking of going in the opposite direction as Missus and I got used to the current setup and kinda want little bit more volume. I may uninstall the small OEM boxes in front of the X pipe. Let's see what happens with this darn Covid-19.
