Sweet Chocolate Jesus - you're going to need more than polish to fix that!

Another Youtube classic recommendation.

Skip to 3.42 to see the extent of the damage.

Firstly, who in their right mind would buy a car that in most countries would be deemed beyond repair as a gift for your expecting partner. Would you honestly trust a vehicle which has been structurally compromised even after significant rebuilding.

There is rebuilding a car with minor body/structural damage, then there is this!

What in the fucking fuck. I was not expecting that. How in god's earth is he going to repair that damn thing. I for one am an absolute moron and will drive close to anything but that I would feel unsafe in.

His fixation with a drivers side door mirror is odd. Mate, you have slightly bigger problems than a sodding door mirror!!!!

He has made 8 parts so far. Do yourself the favour and watch them all. He is posting a new episode almost every day. Amazing that he has the time to fix the car and to produce the videos.

Watching the second video. He's either stupid or has balls the size of church bells.

To be fair the engine does fire up in the second video.

There's a discussion about this over on the F15 boards https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25936946

Funny, he says "I hope whoever was driving is ok"

No, man. Whoever was driving that vehicle is pudding.

He talks early in the video about having 2 other vehicles he hasn't finished for his wife...... Is that what he does? Just buy vehicles and tear them down to make videos. 185k+ views per video and he's making OK money with 8 parts so far. I don't see how in part 8 of this series that he's ever going to figure out how that wiring harness goes back into the vehicle. Let alone where each clip goes

And he also took out a life insurance policy for his wife day after he purchased the X6M (kidding).

Yikes is all I can say....or maybe "FUBAR" is more appropriate....

I think he has made the right decision to reshell, it's the quickest and safest option. I don't doubt he has the capability to fix the original body but given the intended cargo, is it really worth the risk to repair.

I take my hat off to him either way.

She must really love him. Blindly at that.

It looks like frame damage as well. I could be wrong, but I thought most repaired frames weren't quite as strong as the original.

Given this is for his wife and newborn, why not just buy them a decent vehicle that hasn't been on a joyride through former ISIS held territory in Iraq???

Not worth it. "Hey honey, I bought you a giant ball of f*ck as your daily driver for you and the newborn."

Given that he was in a bidding war and the amount that has to be spent on this with the car never having good resale value. Surely, buying a good used one which was a 1-2 years older would have been cheaper and less time consuming.

Given how much work he has to do on this, will he even see his newborn and wife?

Well that's the thing. People are worried and/or concerned about his family but if you give it some thought, what do people expect to happen from a rebuilt car? At worst , he's looking at tolerance issues. Not like the car is gonna fall apart on the highway. Factory built or salvage rebuilt, the frame is the frame. The body is the same. Anything life threatening will be the same from either or.

When all said and done.
Does it drive. ☑
Does it brake. ☑
No faults . ☑
Wheel alignment? ☑

Not to mention the inspection that's needed to register.

Fair play to the guy, I've ended up watching 3 or 4 parts to his Youtube video as its interesting watching him strip down the X6M. He actually knows what he is doing.

It's a unibody. I don't see how he'll ever get that thing straight and square. I bet it'll go down the road at an angle, what we used to call "dog-tracking." Cars that dog-tracked really bad, when you were about 100 feet behind them you could see all 4 wheels. A set of tires would last 10k miles, tops.

LOL - with PZeros on this car you'd just be doing a lap every day. Home -> work -> tire shop -> home -> work -> tire shop.

The guy has found a front end fire damaged X6 so he will be using a perfectly straight frame and shell to transplant the whole drive train and internals of the X6M into the X6.

What I still can't work out is that how is buying 2 damaged cars and 2-3 weeks of solid labour plus spare parts more effective than buying a slightly older used X6M in good working order.

He must be doing it for the 'Tube. There's no way my wife would accept a vehicle like that to transport a newborn in. He could have bought a used X6M and called it a day, or an X6. The time, money and effort that will go into this makes no sense.
