Not much input other than that I am so sorry to see this happen to your new car. That’s awful, and then on top of that, having to deal with all this other BS. Hope everything works out well for you!

The frame rails look perfectly fine. I think you are confusing the floor pan with the frame.

Update….

Got my baby back today. Total cost of repair just shy of $31k, all OEM parts. Got to give a shout out to All Foreign and Domestic collision center in Stockton who did a spectacular job. Thanks to everyone who had a kind word. Been a long 5 months.

Now I have to learn the car again. There's been an update to the OS so this thing is a stranger to me. Nice problem to have at this point.

Yea, very surprised that wasn't totaled with 21-31K worth of damage on a car worth ~38K

Completely bonkers.

Geico is probably fine for an Accord or Camry, but I wouldn't dream of using a budget insurance company for our BMW.

Thankfully you're okay physically, but let this be a lesson that luxury cars call for "luxury" insurance companies.

We had state farm in 2016 with our X5 35d. A giant gazebo flew off a roof during a wind storm (almost crushing me to death) grazed the front quarter panel and cracked the windshield. Our adjuster was adamant about using aftermarket glass, which we flatly refused. After going back and forth with the lady she finally relented and got us the OEM windshield.

Immediately after they paid the claim we switched to Chubb as we weren't interested in haggling with cheapskate insurance companies anymore.

I think Surgx5 just became California's most defensive driver.

Purchase price was around $43k, still they could've totaled it. I have gap insurance so even if they didn't cover the total, gap would cover the rest. I got it back now so moving on. 5 months was too long for all that I've dealt with. Goes to show how and who they really are. Managed to get all OEM parts on my repair though Geico tried to go cheap. Fortunately the shop got price matching on all that wasn't OEM so the integrity of my vehicle is still intact.

Real talk, there's a level of PTSD I deal with now because of the accident. Funny but sadly true.

Very possible. That said, if it sharpens your reflexes or makes you that much more alert - that’s not a bad thing! There are far too many distracted and dangerous drivers on the road today.

Very true. I look around and see drivers with their faces down like they're texting or something and I want to honk but startling someone may cause an accident just the same. And they wonder why these insurance companies talk about accident forgiveness….just not in CA.

Op it’s been a while since your experience with your X5, more than a year now, actually. How your ride handles after the repair? Have you had any trouble with it related to the repair? Kudos!
